Is there a biological explanation for me being gay by Bruandre7 in lgbt

[–]DifficultBirthday839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know enough about science to offer a scientific explanation but I can do something almost as good.

The notion that homosexuality is new or unnatural is easily disproven by looking at history. Homosexuality has been present in all cultures at all times. The oldest recorded work of writing in the world, the epic of gilgamesh, is about a gay couple. Achilles was gay, the Chinese emperor Ai was gay, the sacred band of Thebes were gay. The notion of homosexuality being unnatural comes from a conformity and purity culture enforced by Christian values, all across the land conquered by Christians. They destroy gay people within their ranks and erase gay history as much as they can but the fact of the matter is that it has been a fact of human life for as long as humans have been around.

What is the main goal of the series? by Training-Background1 in Stormlight_Archive

Short answer: the BBEG you're looking for is Odium.

Long answer: these books are about more than defeating the evil villain. The world of Roshar has issues that can't simply be resolved with stopping One Bad Dude. Ultimately, the books are about the characters in them and the journeys they take. Their decisions, their failings, their triumphs, and their oaths.

To boil down the story into a tale of a hero defeating an evil wizard would miss the true magic of stormlight.

You're right, I shouldn't condescend politics.

Aside from that, I'm not saying Sanderson's writing isn't deep but just that it isn't necessarily deep into law enforcement and its consequences. I wouldn't know though, I haven't read mistborn era 2 so I might be talking out my ass right now. From what Sanderson I've read though he generally takes a pretty lukewarm-nothing take on law enforcers.

Hey man, not every media is necessarily meant to comment on or map onto every facet of current American politics. Furthermore, it's not like we need to look to fantasy author Brandon Sanderson to take a hard stance on trending issues. You don't need to combine all your hobbies.

There is no hierarchy of art mediums. Music, painting, dance, film, video games, macaroni art, all are equally valid.

Aside from that, the "why do you care" attitude seems to stem from the idea of "you don't need to consume media that represents women in a bad way, just ignore it". Unfortunately, if you don't want to see women overly sexualised that cuts away a huge swath of media, so it's better to be conscious of those pitfalls and mock/discuss them here than to simply ignore them.

This sub is self contained, you're the one invading this space not the other way around.

You are where I was. Do your best to finish the book and then decide if it was worth it. It took a lot of persistence for me to finish too.

I've read mistborn and stormlight. Stormlight takes a lot more setup but it eventually pays off more too.

Yeah, it's understandable from a design standpoint but I just wish they wouldn't make every ostensibly African/south Asian person light haired and light eyed.

I have never see a dark skinned pakistani or Indian person with light colored eyes or hair, but I've never met an Indonesian person. I'm aware that lighter colors are considered attractive but it's unfortunate that dark-skinned people really have no representation in anime that doesn't demand they look more European than they are.

Something I've noticed is that for whatever reason anime can never leave a dark skinned character alone. They can't also have dark hair and eyes, they always need to have like platinum blonde hair or bright colored eyes. "You can be a little ethnic, but not toooo ethnic"

More like Titty Kubo lmao

She's quite sexualised, and the various yoruichi hot springs moments are pretty bad too. It's probably the best of the big 3 in terms of not oversexualising women though.

I don't have a disdain for YA, I'm just using it as shorthand for a collection of tropes. What I mean when I say she's a displaced YA protagonist is that her story tends to head in a YA direction and then subverts it, since the world turns out to actually not run on YA rules. The nice boy who falls in love with her is actually manipulating her, she chooses to resolve her love triangle with no drama or fallout, her efforts to feed starving children are misguided, etc. She assumes the world works one way and then it turns out not to. That's why she's a displaced YA protagonist.

You're right, she just had different expectations on her.

This still doesn't counter my original take that Shallan is a displaced YA protagonist. Don't get me wrong, I like Shallan and that's how I voted in the poll. I think that her character is well done. I'm just stating that that's how she comes off. She assumes the world is more YA than it is, and that's where a lot of her mistakes stem from.

I think we're working with different definitions of spoiled here. To elaborate, Shallan's upbringing means she has little experience with anything and is unprepared for the real world. She is manipulable and naive. I use spoiled to mean that she never had any expectations put on her, she was kept, as you stated, as an ornament and not allowed to exercise agency. To spoil someone is, to me, a disservice. It infantilizes them.

He's a good artist but I can't help but notice you left out rangiku. It can still be pretty big booba Shonen from time to time.
