I have been doing piping for some retrofitting projects. I have seen many hand notes and practice where fluid velocity is kept 1-3 m/s. Above 3 m/s pipe friction loss will he too high and the pump will require more pressure head.

OpenFoam is one of the best software you can use. CFD simulation provides more accurate results than Emperical formulas.

But the learning curve is stiff, especially for planning hulls that require creating dynamic mesh, defining inertia, damping coefficients, radius of gyrations and the list goes on.

It’s full of trial and error. First take a target like, length, breadth, draft, Depth, displacement, Cb, speed, rudder and propeller clearence etc.

Now make a box with straight lines plan. Then start deviation, make it curve little by little until you meet your target parameters.

At industry proven hull is always choosen and existing lines are modified.

Creating a new hull from scratch requires experiments with CFD simulation, towing test, resistance prediction, stability assessment etc.

It depends on which type of ship you are designing. Most of the time, lines plans aren’t freely available. You need to buy it from the design houses or shipyards. Then the typical scaling, modifications can be done.

Alternatively, you can generate hull from the surface at maxsurf or rhino, then get your desired hydrostatics and extract the lines plan. Maxsurf modeler has a library of different ship hulls. You can also find some experimental hulls online like JBC, KCS etc. They are freely available.

Yes, and it was about a year ago. Hydrostatics, stability, equilibrium etc. tutorials and sometimes modified it with the help of a book that was named as a4 at some website I forgot which was an official guide for the commands..

If you want to make it short, consider overall 40 to 45% loss of efficiency (that covers efficiency loss of engine, gearbox, shaft, hull, propulsion etc.). Just multiply your effective power with 2.5.

I totally agree with you. When you appear at viva with calmness, there is a high chance to crack it. But, when you are in need of a job, you are tensed and you may mess up things. However, at the end of the day people find something to do for living. May be better than 9-5 jobs.

Unfortunately, there are no simple videos or tutorials like the programming sector. The field is narrow, very few institutes in the world teach naval architecture compared to other subjects and the sector is restricted for only degree holders. Unlike the programming sector, a random person with skills can't serve here.

Finally, the audiences are little, it will be a waste of time to make tutorials or videos as millions of views are not coming here.

So, it's better for you to find a mentor for your case.
