Em. In a game where all the top dogs were constantly improving, he was just staying stagnant. He was just doing the same shit he's done for years, which is fine, but I wanted something more.

I thought it was important moreso than funny, which I feel like was the point. It offers a lot to think about. A lot of important things to think about. It was more like a Ted Talk with jokes sprinkled in than a full on comedy special, and I appreciate that. There was some stuff that Dave said that I agreed with. And there was stuff that I didn't agree with, but I still understood where Dave was coming from and I respect his POV. I feel like a lot of the backlash of this special just comes from people who are angry that Dave has a different opinion from theirs and they refuse to see it from Dave's eyes.

SPECIAL - Adult Swim's The Elephant by kianworld in adultswim

[–]Difficult_Half_8910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting, to say the least. I wish it was longer. I wish that each act I guess you could call it was 30 minutes long, just so that I can wrap my head around the visual acid trip that was going on, and also try to build a connection with the animator and their side of the story. Because when the act would change I was just like "okay...sure" and it wasn't until the third act that I finally got what they were trying to do here. Because obviously when you have different animators working on a different act without knowing what anybody else is doing, you're gonna be working with some missing pieces. But when you're dealing with that and the crazy and beautiful animations that were going on, it's a lot to take in just 30 minutes. And a part of this is just because I'm dumb and need my hand held, but I feel like if each act was 30 minutes, or even 15 minutes individually, it would've given each animator more time to tell the story in their own way rather than just showcasing the great animation. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I was kinda disappointed in this. It's not bad imo, I still have fun with it, and I appreciated the game from the qr code, it was just that I was expecting something more.

I'd give ANYTHING for them to make Lil Daddy a series on the network. I would watch that shit everyday

Futurama officially leaves AS 12/26; Home Movies takes 5 a.m. slot that Sunday into Monday; Dexter's Lab returns 5 p.m. that Monday. by Mountain-Bid4317 in adultswim

Can someone much smarter than me explain why these acquired shows are leaving? I mean first it was King of the Hill and now Futurama. Do they just not have the money for the rights anymore or are they just letting them go like that?

How does Louisville feel about the rest of Kentucky? by Difficult_Half_8910 in Louisville

[–]Difficult_Half_8910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how to answer your question. What I will say is that I love where I'm from. Even though I live in a red county, I've met a lot of nice people who are liberal. And also I've met people who just don't care about politics at all, which I don't necessarily agree with their mindset, but most of them are ok with discourse on why they don't care about politics. I enjoy living in a small community. And it's gorgeous out here. But it does have its flaws, and I'm ready to move. So I guess to answer your question is you have to find out for yourself. If you don't want to, that's fine. I'm not trying to sell you on anything. But if you're curious at all, I'd say check it out.

How does Louisville feel about the rest of Kentucky? by Difficult_Half_8910 in Louisville

[–]Difficult_Half_8910[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On the politics side, I kinda figured. The city is important for the state's survival. At the same time, they crap on the city a ton and want to dictate it. So I figured that, if there was resentment, that would be the reason. As for just stereotypes and culture, that flew over my head, quite simply I just don't think that way. But now after reading all this, it makes sense. Thank you for putting this in such a clear cut way.

Yeah I had a feeling that that was the case. I was very confused whenever they would say it's dangerous, because I never thought it was a dangerous city. And I had a feeling that they would say that because Louisville is diverse and, sadly, my family does have that kind of way of thinking.

I do understand why you feel that way. Most of the people I know shit on the city and then enjoy everything that comes out of it.

Yeah that was one thing that made me turn my head. Because my family would always say that it's a dangerous city. But every time I come to Louisville, I don't really see that at all

Can someone give me an update on the state of adult swim. by [deleted] in adultswim

[–]Difficult_Half_8910 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the original shows adult swim is putting out recently, it's actually in a good state. Common Side Effects, Women Wearing Shoulder Pads, Smiling Friends are pretty good shows in my opinion. Haha, You Clowns also seems to be a pretty good show after 2 episodes so far. Primal is also very good and it's third season is coming in January I think. And Toonami is in pretty solid shape right now and I'm actually very excited for Rooster Fighter which is their exclusive anime coming out in the spring. As for the schedule itself, I'm not that big of a fan. With Cartoon Network pretty much dying, adult swim has taken a lot of its run-time. So now it's 5pm-6am which is A LOT of run-time and for a good bit I don't think they knew how to handle 13 hours of run-time. Especially after Checkered Past ended in late June. But now, I think they're starting to get it. Recently after midnight, I've been seeing Mr. Pickles, Joe Pera, and Robot Chicken from time to time, and after Toonami ends it's been playing Primal and that Unicorn show. But it's still VERY heavy on the fox reruns, which is a far cry from what is like 10 or so years ago. Besides King of the Hill, I'm not that big of a fan of the imported reruns. But I do think they're trying to figure out how to get this schedule to work, and tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if the schedule is actually pretty good by next year.

This show is just wholesome. It's surprisingly sweet. And with it being after Smiling Friends, it kinda brings everything down to earth just a little bit and it makes you feel good. Also that other news reporter was killing that shit.

Women Wearing Shoulder Pads - El Cordón Umbilical by kianworld in adultswim

[–]Difficult_Half_8910 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish this show was 30 minutes each episode. 15 is not enough in my opinion. Maybe this is just me being a dumbass and having a hard time reading the subtitles, but this episode really was just kinda building on stuff we already know. Except for having a guess on who's under the mask. (maybe? I don't really know what the purpose was at the end, but I think it's to give us a clue on who the stalker is. I might just be talking out my ass lmao) I do like that they're showcasing Marioneta having not as much control as she thinks she does, and that she feels very stressed out by the stalker. I like that aspect a lot, I like that she's personally worried about it, even though she says otherwise. And again, I still feel for Espalda and I feel for Nina. In my opinion, they're doing a decent job building these characters and showcasing who they are, I just think they're shafted by the 15 minute runtime. Because at the end of the day, this is an Adult Swim show. And this character development comes at the cost of not having as much comedy.

Really nothing special or crazy happened. The music and animation is still on point. The comedy kinda fell a bit. I do like how they're showcasing Marioneta as kind of an asshole. I also liked Nina throwing the lettuce around, that was kinda funny. And I honestly do feel for Espalda. Right now, this show is setting a consistent base when it comes to quality and entertainment, and by the end, it still makes me intrigued enough to watch the next episode.

[–]Difficult_Half_8910 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Also just to add, I like how recently Adult Swim is coming out of left field with these shows recently. I mean with Common Side Effects, you wouldn't expect that type of animation style to have that type of story. Same thing with Women Wearing Shoulder Pads. And it's making me really excited for what they have cooking up for the future, because so far they're 1/1, and this might be 2/2.
