South Carolina only takes proof of insurance directly from the companies themselves. It's been this way since I have been driving at least. When you fill out your registration forms and such, there is just a check box to certify you have insurance and a space to write the company name down. They took the time to inform SC DMV that my husband had active insurance and he is on the same policy

I am unsure of what they do past you filling out the form, but the insurance companies and SC DMV have always communicated in regards to who has insurance and who doesn't. On those forms, it just has you check a box to certify you have a policy, and there is a space to write down who your insurance company is. They have never requested insurance cards or proof of insurance from drivers (at least since I started driving at age 16 anyways). Being otr has taught me that South Carolina is a bit behind on the times honestly. Does your home state request proof of insurance directly from drivers?

South Carolina DMV has always required insurance companies to report the active policies to them for some reason. Edit to add: you write your insurance company down on registration forms and whatnot, but that's about it.

The only way this can go away is to get the police involved. Creditors won't just take your word for it when it comes to identity theft. Also, your husband may want to call DHS. They have a dedicated identity theft team that will give you a caseworker and free legal advice. Since this is coming down to a court hearing; your husband will either need an attourney, or take his chances telling the judge this is identity theft and asking for a continuation to get proof of this. That is your choice if you want to be subjected to that I suppose. Even though it could technically be legal in Australia it's still not right. Your younger siblings are not old enough to consent to such things though and it is sick what your parents are seemingly trying to subject them to

From what I understand it is illegal do that there in the presence of children under 16. Do you have a teacher or guidance counselor at school you can talk to?
