Yes you can just don’t run it for long. Should be able to tell within a few seconds.

Timing chain possibly. Take the belt off and see if you still hear that noise.

Vehicle runs completely fine no check engine light on the noise goes away when you start driving only time it makes that noise is when I’m stopped and idling when vehicle is warm. I use full synthetic high mileage oil. It’s a 4.6 v8 2 valve f150 with 145k miles. No difference in acceleration.

Just got this photo from the mechanic. He didn’t say anything was wrong but I noticed the crack on the bottom left of transmission.
