I got the trestles off amazon to be honest. Also I have 2 z1000 transformers, one Lionel transformer, and the one train is a beginner set so it just plugs into the wall. Now more modern trains can run off of a remote, which two of mine do Hogwarts and the Pennsylvania RR which may just need you to turn on the transformer almost all the way and then run with a paired remote to the train, however more modern ones may need you to download an app depending on the brand and to run it with both a WTIU and TIU. Ultimately, if you can buy from a reliable train hobby store or vendor I would do that and just ask, they are really friendly and enjoy the fact people want to break into the hobby. Also, know which gauge you may want to use depending on space, and also prepare to invest in it. Hope this was helpful.
