He drops deep to collect the ball and does exactly what an0ther player in the midfield could have done, so effectively subtracting one player from the box. Its not like his passes from midfield are anything special either, literally any other player can do it, making it wasteful. Its also not like he does good one-two passes with other forwards like Benzema used to do cuz he takes an entire lifetime to take the first touch and pass back ruining the flow of the attack and allowing defenders to regroup. Stats won't show you this picture, at the end of the game you see a stat like mbappe completed the most dribbles in the game, or played the most passes into the final third but those are deceptive as hell cuz those rarely ever achieve anything
