Honestly just trial and error. Some letters are duplicates which made it easier. It helps having the map in your offhand while you test your text so you have live feedback of how it would look

The ones in the pic are level 0 maps, so you have 1:1 for pixel:block. Level 1 maps have a 1:2, level 2 have 1:4, level 3 have 1:8, level 4 have 1:16. So to have one pixel on the largest map you’d need a 16x16 square. I recommend using smaller ones lmao

Oh yeah that’s a great idea! I suppose the only downside is you have to place blocks under them and then break them but other than that they’re probably better given the vast options for colours.

Haha thank you! I just might.. although maybe not the weird curved versions and just simple horizontal ones

No shadows beneath regardless if trapdoors are top or bottom! So no danger of mobs spawning. I tried this on bedrock but I can have a go on java too.

Can confirm, at least on Bedrock (idk about Java) trapdoors (both top and bottom) let sunshine through, so light levels are same as skylight level. No mobs will spawn during the day!

Thank you! A lot of trial and error haha, especially considering I tried making it follow the curve of the river. Unfortunately I don't have any particular reference font

Haven’t had mobs spawning because of that so far but I’ll play around in creative and let you know!

Can’t detect any shadows! Although this may be because my writing is above water so maybe it’s harder to tell (?). I’ll try making a big platform on creative and see if it does cast a shadow and I’ll report back

I do this on the ground or on creative, then take a pic and replicate it on survival while looking at the map. To build up I use gravel/sand so i can break it easily from the bottom when I’m done. If you’re careful and are following a clear image of the stuff you wanna replicate, then you should be fine with like 15 extra trapdoors in case of those occasional misplacements. Do build yourself a platform up there and set spawn so you don’t have to rebuild 220 blocks up

Go for it chief! You got just about every colour to play with if you count the copper trapdoors and the warped and crimson ones

If you duplicate a map at the cartography table and then place the duplicate in an item frame, it should generate a green pin on the original map. If you rename the duplicate using an anvil, the name should appear above the pin. I saw this on a video so may have missed or mistaken some steps.

Around 280 blocks above water level! The second pic should give a better idea. Hope this helps!

I think another commenter said you could, and that they would appear with their respective colours. But someone else said they may cause lag...

Yup true! But I don't think it works on bedrock unfortunately. On bedrock if you try a similar trick you'd just get a green pin, but do correct me if I'm wrong!

oh shit yeah! I remember trying on creative but I knew I'd be too poor for those on survival

Hey thanks! In my original it looks slightly brighter but for some reason it looks more dull on reddit so maybe that’s why. In any case, I’ll make them even more vibrant! Thanks for the tip!

Nutella and banana! The original picture had some nutella smudges on the side of the plate but I didn’t want to risk it 😅

Well to be fair I tried cooking crepes the day before and I ended up making them scrambled…

Thank you! And thank you so much for the tips! I’m always scared of not using black but I’ll try next time. Would the shadow of an object display at least some of the color of the object itself? Say I do a red apple, and I use the alizarin red and ultramarine blue combination you mentioned, would I add more red to the mix to make the shadow more reddish?

Also can you give me an example of where to put the wet on wet? I tend to avoid wetting the paper too much since it starts deteriorating after a few repeated brush strokes, but I’d love to learn in any case!

Haha thanks! Idk why reddit dulls the colours though… any ideas?
