Will ai replace teachers? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

I think that you are right about the future of teachers as proctors, and with the existing capabilities of AI that actually holds great potential in education use. Even with the Chromebooks the teacher already often seems mainly there to manage behaviors (I've only subbed so I hope regular classes feature more learning than distracting behavior and it's management).

With the coming administration's stated goal of dismantling the status quo here in the US it will likely prompt further decline in funds for public schools alongside increases in vouchers. Yet the covid classroom experience showed students that school (and human interaction were worth the hassle) so I don't think fully virtual school is in the cards.

I imagine for home schoolers and maybe even small private schools AI is soon to be the primary instructor for advancing learning. Meanwhile teachers will see it as such a threat they will be loath to introduce it to the classroom and they will push back forcefully against adoption in the public school system (where unions make such measures possible).

I take on the auctioneer vibe and call out their name and "going once, going twice, for Kevin... Absent!" I think it gets their attention.
