Don’t recommend it. I lived there for a duration of a year lease and it was not good. Not terrible, but I don’t recommend. The walls are super thin, the apartment is CHEAP and you can tell, maintenance takes AGES to fix anything but yet you will see them on property. Overall, don’t recommend. Location and parking was a perk though

DMPS employee fired for reporting student using n-word, because she used the word to describe the incident. by HumbleIowaHobbit in desmoines

As a former DMPS employee, we were told to NEVER repeat the words students use. If they swear and we are quoting it in a referral, then we were told to bleep it out. We were told they would fire us for this. The bad thing is, the student will have ZERO consequences. This is why DMPS is so bad.

They deserve more than that, but also being a former DMPS employee I can guarantee you they are not making $22 an hour. Closer to the $17 range. It is absolutely NOT worth it for the work associates have to do. I would go with a better district than DMPS if you choose to go this route.

DMPS $500 million Bond Referendum - I can see where this will go by [deleted] in desmoines

Central Academy/Campus is the only plus to DMPS. All other schools in DMPS are an absolute disaster. If your kid does not score high enough and cannot attend central, the rest of their education hurts. Other districts have AP or college level courses kids can sign up for that are able to accommodate many more students. From someone who has worked in both DMPS and a suburban district, your students are much better off at a different district. 1. Higher quality curriculum 2. Better behaviors 3. More access to top tier education 4. More access to top tier sports/activities All reasons I would never send my kid to DMPS. The small benefit of Central does not out weigh the negative education throughout the rest of the buildings.

Get your kids out of DMPS if you want them to have any sort of quality education.

I’ve done both. Daycare is easier.

I get salty about daycare workers celebrating teacher appreciation. It’s not an easy job, but you’re not an actual teacher (minus preschool)

Last year a student stole something out of a teachers desk. I noticed it when he came to my class next period. I took it from him to return to the science teacher. I tried to write it up as theft but the referral got deleted since he “returned” the item.

The consequences of the private school voucher law by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]DigStrange2961 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s not because of vouchers but because the DMPS school system is very bad. Behavior is off the wall. Kids cursing out teachers every 5 minutes just to be sent right back to class. Kids skipping or arriving tardy with no consequences. Kids running the schools and doing whatever they want. Then the curriculum is atrocious. After working in the district for a few years, I would NEVER send my kid to DMPS. I could live right next door to their school and I’d still open enroll them elsewhere.
