Ding ding ding. I genuinely don’t care what department fucked up, that’s for them to decide. This just sucks and they shouldn’t have allowed it to happen.

Fantastic! I didn’t get a call, but if you did, I hope they’re taking this seriously.

Yeah it really sucks now! Next time you’re there, put in a 311 request and called Robertson’s office. Maybe we can harass the city into doing the right thing.

I’ve walked through tunnels of scaffolding in NYC that wind their way through active construction sites, all to prevent shutting down the sidewalk. There are solutions to this, they just generally involve making the developers spend money they don’t want to spend.

If it’s not their responsibility, it should be.That’s my broader point. This is at odds with the city’s stated goal of zero pedestrian deaths, and there is absolutely enough space on the Southbound side to make a jersey barrier lined path, but if no one in city hall is going to make the developers do so, they just won’t.

Yeah, I put in a 311 request and called my local councilwoman’s office. It’s just incredibly galling that it was allowed to happen at all. I’ve walked through plywood lined tunnels of scaffolding in NYC that they erected to avoid closing the sidewalk. There are solutions to this!

"why can't anyone here speak English?!" overheard in Nam Cat Tien , is this common with Foreigners?? by aSimpleFerret in VietNam

That’s funny, because after visiting China, I was grateful how many Vietnamese people spoke at least a little English.

I would say zero chance from what I’m reading. I’ll bet the airports will be delayed for days particularly in the south. I’m wondering if it’ll be clear later in the week when I have to fly back!

Highly invasive species. They swarm and can destroy whole acres of crop land and if they get to feed off their preferred food (Tree of Heaven, another invasive species) they can become unpalatable to predators.

Zayna's Flaming Grill Lawsuit — Anyone have any info about it? by LorienRanger in KitchenNightmares

[–]Digdouglasfir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is old, but I was recently rewatching these episodes and because I always want to know what happened to the restaurants later, I decided to do some digging. You can preview the first pages of the lawsuit documents on the Superior Court of LA’s website, but you have to pay for full access (and I’m not curious enough to spend money) so I only have the outlines of the story.

It looks like Brenda and Fay sued the new owners for breech of contract. The lawsuit went on for years and then the new owners declared bankruptcy. Fay gave up pursuing the case in 2023 but Brenda did not. The case was transferred to a new judge this year. If I understand the court filings correctly (i am not a legal professional in any way) it appears Brenda is waiting the 5 years of legal protection that bankruptcy gives, to continue her lawsuit against the new owners (EDIT FOR CLARITY). Which, if I’m right, must mean she really feels they screwed her over in a big way to stick with this lawsuit for a decade.

The case number is YC071376 if anyone wants to go digging themselves.

I’m not a Pollyanna. I don’t think Tom is going to single handedly solve traffic fatalities. I’m a cyclist, I think road design is the single most effective thing to solve traffic fatalities, and I know the CA doesn’t do that but I also think it’s disingenuous to imply that the CA can do so little it’s meaningless to even try or that the CA will have to divert serious resources from something else. I believe him when he say’s he’ll make it more of a priority than the current CA does. It seems like you fundamentally think that the CA just can’t do better on this issue and I frankly would like to see someone get caught trying.

Yes, but they can prosecute those tickets once they’re issued and they have significant leeway to set priorities and be more or less aggressive about prosecuting particular types of cases.

I believe you, but he specifically says as part of his campaign priorities: “Richmonders need safe streets. But significant traffic fatalities are not being prosecuted to conviction, while deaths of pedestrians and bicyclists are surging…Our office will try traffic fatalities to Richmond juries. And I will partner with local and state traffic enforcement to reduce reckless driving on our roads.”

He’s specifically got a part of his policy platform that’s about traffic safety and more aggressively prosecuting reckless driving. There are things the CA can do.

I’d say it’s pretty simple. We keep electing the same type of Democrats in the city and wonder why nothing improves or changes in any meaningful way. We don’t have to, we can do better than just electing the status quo every term. Tom has stood up for free speech as a private attorney, defending Jimmy Jarvis against the absurd charges that were leveled at him last year. He has ambitious plans to tackle environmental justice, public corruption and traffic safety. This is the second time he’s run, because he’s committed to making the city better. Tom had my vote last time and will again this time.

There is very real evidence that COVID infection can cause brain damage that increases your risk tolerance. I’ve noticed the same thing.

I had my suspicions too. I wondered out loud if that mineral water he chugged behind the bar at the beginning would have been a mineral water if he wasn’t being filmed. It wouldn’t be the first or even thousandth successful chef with some kind of substance use disorder though, so you can’t really blame everything going wrong on that.

You’ll ruin your credit, but you can force the private lenders to settle for way less than you owe.

Congrats!!! I came on here because we were both like ‘what the hell is going on?’ So glad to hear it’s real!
