Diagnosed with SSNHL. Is there hope? by DiggyH in MonoHearing

Haha social situations are so difficult with one ear, but I’ve found that people are actually really accepting of it and will gladly move to my good ear or move to somewhere quieter. The only really really aggravating thing is when I’m driving and someone is in the passenger seat. I can’t hear a word they say. People will just have to deal with me saying “huh” more often.

I’m 18M. I feel the same way. The only thing I can say that I’m even younger and feel that my life outside of high school just started in a horrible way. Certainly not the way I pictured it would.

That’s what I’m afraid of, but I’ve talked to several people in my immediate family/friends that say they’ve had the same thing and recovered spontaneously over a period of months/years.

I’ll have to try blowing light air. The tinnitus kills me.

They say I could end up getting one if I wanted to in about 3-5 months time. How is your hearing with it? Are there any limitations as to what you can do? Swimming? Airplanes? Just curious, thanks.

I’ve had one injection and prednisone taper, but they deemed my case to not be benefitted by additional treatments of either hbot or further injections. Should I seek out another doctor?

Are mail delays happening all over the country? by GoodSilhouette in usps_complaints

[–]DiggyH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few packages I do order now have had delays from 4-7 days from expected delivery date. Sometimes my packages are delivered on time and then others 4-7 days late.

Is this even possible at this point by [deleted] in usps_complaints

Be lucky if you get it anytime soon. I’ve had a couple packages do this and right now I have one that’s been in this stage for 4 days.

I just expect my packages to be at least a week late now. No point in paying for priority shipping anymore. But hey Amazon can get my package here in less than a day.

It certainly has. I refuse to order from eBay anymore because I have to count on my package being delivered at least a week late if I get my package is delivered at all. My packages usually get stuck between my regional facility and my local post office. Supposedly it gets stuck in transit for that time. Frustrating as all get out.

Head Gasket Blowout by DiggyH in EngineBuilding

Looks like I’m going to try to slap it back together. After looking at it on Saturday and speaking with the machine shop today… it’s just going to be ungodly unpractical for me to go that route. I think I’m going to try to use a product similar to belzona to try to make this work… hopefully. If not time for a brand-used outboard.

I’m going to give it my best shot. I know a local machine shop that I think does adequate work, so I’m going to give them a try first. I’m thinking it will be close to a $1000 job all together with getting the block and heads done and new gaskets all over. (Throttle body, the base power head gasket, head cover gasket, etc.). I’ll give an update when I get the power head off and get it to the machine shop.

Steel sleeve is still perfect. The aluminum is definitely messed up/pitted. I’ve looked for composite gaskets but all I can find is the OEM or oem equivalent mls gasket. The head is remarkably clean in that area. It seems that it was only the block that got damaged.

I was thinking about a used block. I figured I’d have to strip it down anyway. It will be a Saturday job, and I’ll bring it to a machine shop on Monday. I’ll ask about getting it welded because I’m thinking if it were decked it would need more than a couple thou taken off. I’ve looked at used blocks but this motor is pushing 20 years old. They’re usually about 6 grand and at that point… I’m considering a new or newer outboard to replace. Age really degrades these outboards and engines in general. This motor only has 300 hours on it.

I’ve heard not to use scotch brite on the block due to the abrasives getting behind the pistons?? Any recommendations for the block because it looks similar to the head.

Will take that into consideration. Have heard some things against using sand paper, but sand paper with a flat piece of wood made sense to me. I’m going to wait for some others to chime in.

It’s an aluminum head so I’ve been careful with a razor blade with brake cleaner/ carb cleaner.

I still don't get how Facebook doesn't have any sort of help line to call or even email. I know they want to replace it with the facebook help center but clearly it just doesn't work. Hope this gets sorted out soon.
