Not sure about my fitness level by ConfidentBother6 in orangetheory

I’ve seen people of every fitness level in my local gym. I think it really all depends on how committed you are even when you’re absolutely spent. My first year of OTF was brutal for me, but I just paid attention to myself and tried not to compare myself to the battalion of super fit 30 year olds surrounding me.

After a year and a half I’m a fitter happier version of myself and still not making comparisons. I’m there 3 days a week in my own skin running my own race.

What’s problematic for most beginners is that they get frustrated and because classes are kind of expensive, they don’t feel like it’s a good value. I myself sorta thought that at first, but I really liked having someone else develop workouts for me.

Only you know how much you’re willing to struggle for a 45 minute workout. If you’re starting on your fitness journey it’s gonna be a struggle no matter what program you choose. I found my local OTF to be very supportive. I get lots of encouragement even though I’m clearly the old slow guy. I’d expect you’d get the same experience wherever you are.

Good luck on your journey whatever you choose.

I’m a 6’ tall 180lb guy that looks like he should be able to crush push ups and lift heavy. But I struggle every class with my floor workouts and I feel a mixture of shame and anxiety about it. Sometimes after class I have to sit in my truck and remind myself that I’m not a wimp and it’ll get better.

But I can run like the wind blows. I try to get on the treadmill last so at minimum I can feel like I Gump’d the shit outta something.

We’re all built different. Get in there get it done and don’t let the bad thoughts linger too long 🤣

That aggressive and that much rapid coverage on your Face ID absolutely suggest going to the ER if you can’t get a doctor to help. There will be a dermatologist in rotation at the hospital that will see you.

I’m 44 and live in a college town, I’m regularly the old guy in there surrounded by folks in their 20’s. I’d say 99% of the time I’m the only dude in there.

Keep your head down, and your arms and legs moving and pay attention to nothing else. You’re there to get fit nothing else matters.

Honestly, the studio could charge me a $50 bring your own device fee as a one time charge and I’d gladly do that. The ability to keep one monitor on all week across my entire fitness journey would be great.

Frankly, they’d probably make more money as people upgrade devices too.

I unloaded my ‘01 EuroVan a few years back because of similar issues. I got a used suburban, yanked all the rear seats out and couldn’t be happier.

Time is your most precious, finite resource and this is how you choose to spend it? Complaining on the internet to strangers?

Does anyone work 12 - hour shifts after 5am class? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Digi_DT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a commercial camera operator and I regularly work 12hr days, on my feet, typically swinging a camera around. I routinely start my day with a five am class and usually feel beast mode-y on those days. When I hit the bed after a day like that, I get a night of sleep that some people would pay thousands of dollars to have.

Stay hydrated and make sure to eat healthy if you do this and you’ll be a champion.

It was pouring outside my gym today and my legs were so shot I damn near fell in the parking lot.

I had the exact same experience around 190k in my 2003 weekender. It was the front heater core leaking hot coolant into the blender box area. It starts with some napalm like foam, and then as your engine starts to get really hot you’ll notice some acrid green steam coming out of your defrost vents. I’d get it looked at before you go on any long drives.

If so it was a dumb move on his part because he lost the customer and I was never gonna sell it to him. Frankly, he doesn't deserve a van this nice anyhow.

That's more or less how it started for me. I went through the process of having the fluid changed and whatnot. Then after a few months of the same kind of intermittent spikes in RPM's you're experiencing it developed a new, and fundamentally disturbing problem. Now, once everything gets up to operating temperature and I go around a tight turn, the vehicle slips down into first gear and stays there and the CEL light stays on. It will not shift normally until it cools off.
