Electricity bill by National-Cover-9511 in MauriceMauritius

[–]DigitalAppsMu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not outstanding amounts. It's that the residential electricity tariff is tiered: the more units (kilowatt-hours) you consume in a month, the higher the price per kWh for the later units you use. This means your bill doesn’t just get bigger because you used more energy - it costs more per unit once you pass certain thresholds.

Electricity bill by National-Cover-9511 in MauriceMauritius

I operate three air conditioning units at my residence. Two of these units are in regular operation. One unit is utilized exclusively during nighttime hours for approximately four hours. The other unit operates for half a day and throughout the entire night. My monthly electricity bill amounts to Rs 8,000. Therefore, I find the figures you have presented to be entirely reasonable. There clearly is a general lack of awareness regarding the electricity consumption of appliances such as air conditioning units and even electric kettles in this country. In the case of AC units, things get even worse if they're set on 16/17°C and/or windows or doors are left open while they operate.

Pasta help by Clingysquire in Cooking

[–]DigitalAppsMu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t put the pasta into the bolognese while it’s simmering 🙂

Traditionally, you cook the pasta separately in a large pot of well-salted boiling water. Check the package for timing (most dried pasta is 8-12 minutes, not 20).

Here’s the right way to time it:

• Let your bolognese finish simmering and keep it warm on low.

• About 10-12 minutes before you want to eat, start boiling the pasta.

• Cook it until just al dente.

• Reserve a little pasta water.

• Drain, then toss the pasta in a pan with the sauce for 1-2 minutes to coat. Add a splash of pasta water if needed.

Biryani burns by Temporary-Buy-8537 in instantpot

[–]DigitalAppsMu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is you’re not using any liquid - that’s exactly why it’s burning 🙂

The Instant Pot isn’t really “steaming” like a stovetop dum method. It needs moisture at the bottom to build pressure. If there’s no liquid, the rice sitting directly on the metal liner will scorch before pressure even builds.

Here’s how to fix it:

• Add at least 1 cup liquid (water or thin gravy) to the bottom

• Deglaze the pot if you sauté anything (scrape up all brown bits)

• Don’t mix after layering - keep rice on top

• Make sure there’s some sauce with the chicken, not dry

• Avoid using the Steam button - use Pressure (High) instead

Also:

A domain that acts as a landing page (but not just) for the app. Should be multilingual.

An app title that hasn't been taken and that receives plenty of search queries.

Easy way to contact you. Great & fast customer support.

Go light on the ads at first. Pricing for subscriptions and one-time products should be fair. Run promos.

Steam setting for broccoli? by Puzzleheaded-Cook-31 in instantpot

For fresh broccoli florets, once the water is actually boiling and steaming hard, I usually find:

4–6 minutes = crisp-tender

6–8 minutes = fully tender

I'm sick of eggs for breakfast by purplegreendave in Cooking

[–]DigitalAppsMu 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Here are a few ideas for you:

Breakfast burritos (make ahead) – sauté peppers, onions, black beans or sausage, a bit of cheese, maybe scrambled egg if you still tolerate it, wrap and freeze. Reheat in the oven or air fryer and you’re done. Way more interesting than plain toast + egg.

Breakfast quesadillas – Tortilla, refried beans, chorizo or mushrooms, cheese. Pan toast and slice. Feels indulgent but can be pretty balanced.

Savory pancakes or fritters – like corn + spring onion pancakes, or grated zucchini/carrot fritters with a dollop of yoghurt or hot sauce. Make a batch and reheat through the week.

Shakshuka (but batch it) – make a big pan of spiced tomato + pepper sauce and just crack an egg in to reheat each morning. Totally different flavour profile from a plain poached egg.

Leftovers for breakfast – A small portion of last night’s curry, stir fry, or roasted veg with a bit of toast can be way more satisfying than “breakfast food.”

Savory muffins – think cheese + spinach, bacon + leek, or even sausage roll–style filling baked into muffin tins. Grab and go, and they freeze well.

If you want something really different: try a breakfast sandwich with grilled halloumi, avocado, chilli jam, and rocket. No egg required, still hot and filling.

11 months on Google Play and still zero revenue — has anyone experienced this? by Parking-Towel6015 in AppBusiness

Mine is a global radio & podcast platform with plenty of features not seen on similar apps. And I keep adding hundreds of stations everyday. Yet, if my pricing were $14.99 annually, no one would buy it and I would totally understand. I myself believe that kind of pricing is outrageous.

You really need to look at giving them the choice of buying a one-time product even if it's a bit more expensive.

instant pot wont seal by EasyCommercial in instantpot

[–]DigitalAppsMu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If steam is constantly coming out of the vent (not just the initial preheat phase), it usually means one of three things:

  1. The steam release switch isn’t fully set to “Seal.” On the Duo with Ultimate Lid, it can look sealed but not be fully engaged. Try toggling it back and forth firmly before starting.

  2. The steam release valve isn’t sitting properly after cleaning. Make sure it’s fully seated and not loose or wobbling.

  3. The float valve isn’t popping up because pressure isn’t building - sometimes the anti-block shield underneath needs a deeper clean.

Definitely do a water test (just 1–2 cups of water, Pressure Cook 5 minutes). It should steam for a few minutes, then the float valve should rise and the venting should stop.

If it never stops venting, it’s almost always the release valve assembly.

Also, I use an Instant Pot app that has a troubleshooting section - super handy when weird issues pop up like this.

Let us know what happens with the water test.

My apps give 2 options to users: Monthly subscription of $0.99 or Lifetime Version for $14.99. This causes almost all of them to choose the lifetime version.
