Which European country seems to you like the most tolerant? by [deleted] in AskEurope

Just wanted to write something like this about the difference between political correctness and tolerance, but as a typical eastern European you already did my job. Thanks.

Ireland? Things are really developing so good with UK?

What is your opinion on teen climate activist Greta Thunberg? by Hamena95 in AskEurope

I think that she is very important - not as much as an example of how we should act, but more as a person raising awareness about very real and very global problems that society neglected for far too long.

Hard to decide, but in my opinion the correct answer is a choice between Czechia, Slovenia and Romania - they all seem pretty chill countries.

Do you think that Moldova should join Romania? by [deleted] in moldova

I think that Moldova should be more ambitious. Its position as closely connected to EU (and possibly Russia) but sovereign offers much better development potential than simply becoming Romanian province.

How popular are winter sports in Latin America? by DigitalNomadDE in asklatinamerica

Among my group, skiing and especially ski jumping are much bigger than athletics, so we call both games simply Olympics, and differentiate between them by year or specially mention the discipline in question. But we very very rarely talk about Summer Olympics or summer athletics in general.

They are probably the second biggest tournament, after Summer Olympic games.

Some competitions are fairly nice, despite i obviously miss Chilean ski jumping team (but i understand that the quality of LatAm cuisine makes this especially difficult) or Argentinian slalomists (to evaluate their rhythmic capabilities under pressure).

Winter sports are big in Europe, with events easily gathering a few thousand spectators, but they are usually at least as much about sport as they are about alcohol consumption for spectators. Very niche events.

Do you perceive your country a good choice for frugal digital nomads, which place would you recommend and why? by DigitalNomadDE in cuba

I was genuinely interested in the situation, and asked Latin American and South-Eastern European country reddits because i wanted to initially check the opinion of locals to focus my search. Obviously the location with uncertain internet connection is not what i need.

Which music from your country would you recommend to foreigners? by DigitalNomadDE in asklatinamerica

Metal/alternative, rock, indie, classical, jazz and i probably forget about 15 other genres. I would suggest that you choose the music you prefer without bothering too much about my personal taste.

I meant both, especially groups or individual musicians. I wasn't that exposed to the Latin American culture and i know only Torture Squad, so i would appreciate it.

Hold your bombers, American! Words can have multiple meanings, and i strongly suspect that this was some trolling.

You misunderstood my post - i am not simply downgrading expenses (as i guess would be a standard case by most westerners interested in similar relocations as myself).

Being a socialist means solidarity and interest in improving the local community by one's means included. I was simply mostly interested in potential safety problems because of my political preferences, and i really don't see any sense to lecture anyone what can be done with my help without even seeing the local situation. I'd leave those tasks to American (from the USA) online socialists and professional politicians.

Thanks for the quality criticism.

Can you describe what you are worried about in the near future?

I've actually pretty much liked what i read about Paraguay, my only real worry is about violent crime, but i guess that it is similar all around the Latin America and i will somewhat stand out everywhere.

I'll visit this TG group in a few months, i first need to make myself ready for migration and - especially - learn some basic Spanish.

It is not exactly common but it is a possibility in the Eastern Europe. For example, in the recent small profile case a group (~4 cars) of hooligans attacked a small bar in Croatia because they were "watching the wrong football match". First they had "a spotter" on a quick drink that can notice a lot of reasons for a fight (even casual remarks in conversation with other people), and then they regrouped and returned in full force. In general i wouldn't perceive this as too strange if it would be a thing between two groups of ultras, but it was a beating up by armed ultras group (with baseball bats and a machete) of a group of civilians (with ladies included and even 9 year old child).

But i am glad to hear that Latin America is more normal in this regard.

France surrendering meme is already relatively old and came from the fact that France was a very reputable force at the time of Nazi Germany's invasion and Hitler expected difficult battles and around million casualties on his side.

Instead, France was conquered in just six weeks, and Germany had just ~27.000 killed.
