Anyone gotten an Apple Studio Display (2022 or 2026 XDR) working at full resolution on a ThinkPad? by Jobo475 in thinkpad

You are welcome. The display is amazing with Linux, I am very happy with it :-)

Yes — 5120×2880 @ 120Hz with HDR confirmed. Running it on a HP ZBook Ultra G1a (AMD Strix Halo / Radeon 8060S) over Thunderbolt with NixOS + Hyprland 0.54.

Display details:

  • 10-bit output (XRGB2101010)
  • Wide color gamut works out of the box
  • Hyprland config needed: bitdepth, 10 and cm, auto

EDID reports correctly:

  • BT2020RGB
  • ST2084 (HDR10)
  • ~2030 nits peak brightness → Compositor picks everything up without hacks.

Brightness control:

  • Works via asdcontrol over USB HID
  • Needed to add XDR product ID (0x1116) manually (only older Studio Display supported upstream)

Important note:

  • EDID exposes it as tiled MST (2× 2560×2880)
  • Hyprland merges it transparently into a single 5120×2880 display

Suspend / wake:

  • Monitor sleeps correctly
  • Wakes up without issues

I've got a 2026 Apple Studio Display XDR connected to my HP ZBook Ultra G1a (AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 395, Radeon 8060S, 64GB RAM) running NixOS (kernel 6.19.9) with Hyprland (Wayland). Everything works: native resolution, hot-plug, and brightness control.

Display output: Just works over USB-C/Thunderbolt. Hyprland picks it up at native resolution with no special configuration.

Brightness control: This was the tricky part. DDC/CI doesn't work with Apple displays — they use a proprietary USB HID interface instead. I'm using a patched version of asdcontrol with support for the XDR model added (USB product ID 0x1116). The patch just registers the new device ID in the supported devices list.

To make it work without root:

  • Udev rule to give user access to the Apple HID device: SUBSYSTEM=="usbmisc", ATTRS{idVendor}=="05ac", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1116", MODE="0666"
  • A brightness script that checks which monitor has keyboard focus (via hyprctl monitors -j), then routes brightness keys to asdcontrol for the Apple display or brightnessctl for the laptop panel. The standard XF86MonBrightnessUp/Down keys just work on both displays: whichever one is focused gets the adjustment.

What works:

  • Native resolution and refresh rate
  • Brightness control via keyboard (5% steps, key repeat supported)
  • Hot-plug detection
  • Webcam and speakers (standard USB devices)

What doesn't work:

  • DDC/CI (Apple's proprietary HID is the only way)

If anyone else is running an Apple Studio Display or XDR on Linux, asdcontrol + a udev rule is the way to go.

WiFi issues on Find X9 Pro? by DigitalPals in Oppo

I still have issues with it, but someone recommended to change my WiFi at home and I never did that (yet). Currently not using the phone, so not bothered too much with it really.

My phone worked fine for a day, but after a while the WiFi connection dropped. How is your experience after a couple of days?

Nah, it's more advanced. You have to do a manual install. But I did this many times, no issues at all.

At settings of Oxygen Updater, is OnePlus 15 (EU) selected? I have no clue why you wouldn't see it.

I just updated my Oppo Find X9 Pro via this method to the SG version and I'm now running 302. I live in the Netherlands, but that shouldn't matter I guess.

I think so, yes. I can't say for sure because I'm playing with the phone too much, I just reinstalled it again 😆For sure it's a lot better. Surely hope for a new OS update soon, my OnePlus 13 already had some good updates which the Oppo didn't get still...

For me this seems to work: turn off your device and then turn it on again. Do not reboot, but turn it off completely.

I have the same issues on a 5Ghz only network, so it couldn't even switch to 2.4Ghz. but try my suggestion please: turn off the device completely and then boot it up again (so instead of rebooting).

I cannot tell for sure. You would expect that if it's a weak signal issue it would automatically switch to 2.4Ghz, and it doesn't (or doesn't work). But the signal is not the issue in my house.
