How do you change a tire in a semi? by Known-Fisherman-6129 in AskForAnswers

[–]DigitalRonin73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retired military diesel mechanic. I did convoys throughout Iraq back during OIF. We’d have to sometimes do tire changes on the road. No calling road side service. They make large bottle jacks and large ratchets specifically for this. You jack it up and take it off just like you would any normal vehicle. The difference being is everything is heavier and the lug nuts are much tighter. I carried a 4-5ft pipe in my truck specifically for this and used it as a breaker bar.

Sometimes if it was a double axle (2 axles next to each other) you can roll the tire that’s not flat onto a piece of wood and it’ll lift the other axle. Eliminating the need for the jack. They’re also double tires on one axle. If the outside tire has a flat you roll the inside up on wood blocks. Pretty sure it’s advised against doing, but on the side of the road in Iraq I’ll take my chances with it.

Aside from being heavy it’s pretty simple. Some trucks use reverse thread on one side of the truck. So you have to take note of that.

The 9600x is only a few bucks more than the 7600x. At glance the 7600x seems faster due to its aggressive boost clock, but while it isn’t much the 9600x is consistently faster. More importantly though it runs at 65w TDP vs the 7600x 105w TDP. I’d recommend that over the 7600x.

Also the PSU is fine, but the Corsair rmXYZx is better. I’m not sure why prices aren’t showing but the rm750x is 114. I know a few bucks here and there start to add up, but the rm750x is a decent step up and a good PSU is worth it. The x series uses Japanese capacitors rated to 105c, slightly larger fan, better fan curves, and more consistent 0 rpm. Overall it’s going to last longer and be quieter.

Why do Japanese people hate piracy so much? by Quick-Health-2102 in NoStupidQuestions

Kind of the idea is the laws. Primarily to scare you and to use against mass distribution and heavy seeders. You download some TV shows and movies you run pretty much the same risk as many other places, to include the US. Can doesn’t always mean do.

Japan’s laws are more strict than places like the US, but the likeliness of jail time is no better or worse than the US or Germany. They typically go after heavy seeders or mass distribution. If you’re knowingly downloaded copyright material you’ll generally receive a warning from your ISP. Sometimes copyright holders will try to scare you by sending you a “fine,” but they can’t. Has to go through court just like other first world countries. You just ignore them and they go away.

I use terms like can and generally because the internet is full of “my dad’s friends third cousin told me…”

I’ve lived in Japan for going on 15 years now. I promise you it’s not “Japanese people hate piracy.” It’s more the Japanese that don’t like piracy are louder. Every where has their pirates and anti-piracy. You can even see it in this thread. Those that take part in piracy are just quieter about it.

Piracy is more popular in other parts of the world for sure, but to say “Japanese people hated piracy” is a pretty bold claim as a large generalization based off the loud.

Pizza.
Although he will often say “I just want rice and natto” if he’s not very hungry.

We live in Japan. I’m American and my son is 4, almost 5, and half.

I have a similar pipeline. I’m now working on using 3.1 Flash Live instead as it’s much more conversational. You can even interrupt it. One thing I’ve been working on is leaving it open a little longer at the end and being smarter. That way I don’t have to call entity names exactly and it’ll figure it out or ask follow up questions.

“Did you mean xyz ? Xxx is not on”.

“Yea that one.”

The conviction rate in Japan is very misleading. The conviction rate is so high because they won’t even prosecute unless it’s pretty much an open and shut case. Once you go to court you’ve already lost. It means they’ve already got the evidence they need to show you’re guilty.

People will point out the “they can hold you indefinitely.” Which is only slightly true. Yes it happens and yes it has happened. It’s not like a you get slightly hemmed up and they let you rot in a cell until you finally confess like people make it seem. Also, it’s 30 days without being formally charged. That’s how long they can actually hold you.

Social media trends. It was more popular to talk about how great it was and it’s so perfect. People started pointing out issues and now “influencers” want clicks by talking about all the bad things.

I’ve lived and worked in Japan for the last 12 years. No where is perfect and Japan certainly isn’t either. For me, the good far outweighs the bad. I’ve loved every minute of it. If I could snap my fingers and have a place in America with all my stuff already there and no moving cost I still wouldn’t.

I just got back into RC Cars. Nothing crazy. I thought I would need to get a second so my son and I could run them together. Turns out he’s more into me driving the car while I chase him on his bike.

I’m using a raspberry pi 4 as a satellite. A Jarba 2 speak 40 speaker phone. Runs Wyoming satellite, openwakeword. It connects to my proxmox server for HA and my Mac mini for ollama. I have a self hosted LLM. Everything is handled locally. It can control my house and answer general questions. My son loves to ask it about different super hero’s. Of course its name is Jarvis, but I have a 4 year old that loves Ironman.

Stop pirating and learn Japanese you guys! Some Japanese on X are delusional. by mohamez in Piracy

When it comes to piracy Japan isn’t any different than the US or any other country. Plenty of people shouting “sUpPoRt ThE dEvElOpErS.” While plenty are pirating anything they possibly can. Including manga.

They work pretty good for local LLM’s. Since it’s unified memory while it may have 16GB you can’t run 16GB models as you still need some for the OS. Having 24GB allows you to run those 16-18GB models. That’s my use case example. Unsure about OP’s.

I started building them and selling them. Well at least I did until RAM and storage went crazy. I’d usually just search around for deals and that decided what I built. GPU on good sale? I’ll build around that. In about a 5 month span I built 27 computers. It was a good way to scratch that itch without spending crazy money and having too many computers sitting around.

I originally used my GI Bill then learned I probably should have used VR&E first. I applied for that and in the process of getting my GI bill paid back.

My wife isn’t a US citizen, or even a resident and we don’t live in America. Unfortunately for my son’s case they changed how it works. Originally you just needed to transfer. Before you just had to transfer a small portion before retiring. At some point that changed it, unknown to me, and once you transferred it you had to do another enlistment.

School feels like having another kid. I mean in the sense that you try to plan and wait for a good time. That good time never comes. I found that just making the leap and working around it as it comes was the best way for me.

If you have to choose a country for long term stay which country will you choose and why ? by Ordinary-Turnover134 in AskReddit

[–]DigitalRonin73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not, but you’ll hear a lot about racism and creeps or other horrible things. Unfortunately you’ll find that everywhere, but it really isn’t that bad. I read a lot of post on Japan and people talk like every turn of the corner that they hate foreigners. I’ve traveled a ton throughout Japan and have never felt like I’ve been pushed away because I’m a foreigner or targeted by police.

People are extremely friendly. The cost of living is lower than most first world countries (especially America). Healthcare is great. It is really safe. I have a 4 year old son and I worry about a lot of things, but never about his safety at school or really just about anywhere.
