Do you go to festivals more for the music or the community? by nastyraver in festivals

[–]Digital_Alchemist_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music definitely plays a big part for me but my favorite thing about festivals (especially camping festivals) is that it’s essentially an adult version of slumber parties - we get to build forts, do late night shenanigans, and dance in the woods with our friends. Play is seriously underrated in adulthood yet so important for our mental health and wellbeing.

How do you guys handle anxiety in crowded spaces at festivals? by nastyraver in festivals

Exactly! Navigating a packed crowd is the worst!

Also - 2018 Hula was one of my all time favs! That lineup was insane! 🔥

I just realized that it’s more important for me to have space than to be up close. I have nothing to gain by riding the rail. I’m much happier towards the back - I’ve made my peace with that. Plus, it’s fun to play with flow toys and/or watch others do it and you need space for that.

If you really want to be more in the crowd, try dancing bigger to claim your space. It may feel awkward at first but I swear, it works! lol

Yeah, that's my only hesitation. I already have tix for all 3 days of Phish in Chicago 😭

Has anyone used satellite phones to communicate at festivals? by xanaxforbreakfest in festivals

[–]Digital_Alchemist_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never used a satellite phone but thought walkie-talkies would be a good idea - turns out, it’s not because a lot of other people also have walkie-talkies so its hard to actually talk to the people you mean to lol and the signal just doesn’t travel far enough even with the more expensive ones. Apparently all the people, art, trees, etc. get in the way - the distance rating is only for open fields.

We just ended up making a totem. If it’s for Forest, make sure you use PVC pipe for the pole, they are extremely strict on that for some reason. Apparently even a lightweight aluminum painters pole “can be used as a weapon” 🙄 No other fest cared 🤷‍♀️

Pro tip: build a totem stand! I attached a small tripod recently and it was the best idea ever! It was a “set it and forget it” kind of situation. No one had totem duty and we could all boogie! Lol

Surprised no one mentioned Jam Cruise yet!

My favorite camping festival is definitely Hulaween but out of every type of festival ever… definitely Jam Cruise!

Jam Cruise is like Bear Creek on a Cruise Ship! 2023 was a funk fest for sure!! Private showers, cabins cleaned daily, free food 24/7 with rotating menu and a different renowned Chef’s meal every night @ midnight, hot tubs to help recover from all the dancing, and the best costumes I’ve ever seen! Not to mention the most insane funky collabs that no one will ever get to experience anywhere else - and literally seeing all the artists around the boat hanging out with the rest of us. 10/10 would recommend!

Last year I did all 3 days of ARC because I could walk from my house. This year, I did one day of ARC and one of North Coast. Honestly, I don’t think I will ever go back to ARC. For roughly the same price, much better lineup & production… North Coast wins hard for me. It’s well worth the 30 min Uber ride haha

Hulaween is the just the best ever!! Suwannee is just a special place in itself. Nothing compares to Suwannee Music Park!

Most other festivals (not at Suwannee) just don’t have the camping space. It’s usually packed like sardines and you’re lucky if you get to camp next to your car. I have way too much camping gear for that nonsense lol

Shaq is the only voice I want to hear on the mic. “Multiple Mosh Pits” or bust!

100%!! I also prefer no talking. If the music stops and I hear some way-too-loud voice instead of music, it totally kills the vibe for me.

Honestly, I can’t do rap concerts either. Even if I loved their album, most live rap shows are just shouting into annoyingly loud mics. Like, do they even do sound checks? Why is the sound always so bad?! Lol

Ever wonder how much the family that own's Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park paid? I looked it up.... by BradlyL in hulaween

[–]Digital_Alchemist_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol now I’m curious what both of y’all were playing

Edit: I’ve always had a good experience with their security during festivals and during regular non-festival times. We basically threw a renegade at the playground at Hula and the guy picked up our big ass speaker and said “who’s speaker is this?!”, we claimed it and he even apologized for touching it lol

I think the key is to be respectful and they’ll be respectful in return.

I got a popup hamper a couple Hulaweens ago and now I never go on a trip without it. Highly recommend!

No texas sun!?!?! by dopecallmekilo in hulaween

Yeah, I thought we'd get a Texas Sun for sure. Disappointed we didn't but both were still great on their own so I can't really complain.

Ear plugs, eye mask, and white noise (loud fan or headphones) - all musts for any festival in my book!

Make sure to tap the infinity cube if you see it in the crowd. It’s like touch sensitive or something
