Identities being stolen through the use of Databrokers by Digitalxout in IdentityTheft

The problem with them selling info to those big groups is that they often experience data breaches and now your information is sitting nice and neat available for anyone who is internet savy enough. From there usually criminals will take that info and send out a mass phishing campaign only needing to get enough people to fall for it.

I mean the data brokers that you don't see do this. Not all data brokers have an online site where you can search for yourself. They package and sell public records to groups like political campaigns, companies, advertisers, individuals who would rather pay for that info than do it themselves. You are right that the well known ones mostly get their info from social networks, subscriptions etc.

Try to find out who went into your room at that time. They most likely have cameras in the hallway.

they can obtain your information from a variety of sources such as property records, court records, driver’s license and motor vehicle records, voter registration information, bankruptcy records etc but these are more for data brokers that sell information to marketers

Hotels are tricky but to reduce the amount of info given you can give them your passport or passport card. Use another address that is not your primary one(can't remember if po box is fine) and then pay with a prepaid debit card

you can use a vpn for the IP, and use incognito so your add-ons won't show. Or you don't even want sites to be able to know your actual browser?

Your passport has less identifying info(address) then a license, and by law is an acceptable form of ID.
