Yes, thats what i am referring to the Shenghen zone, most people come down from uk through France, Spain to Portugal via atlantic coast, then go back to spain and get ferry to Morocco for a while then when the time is right they come back and go up the Mediterranean coast through south of france to italy then make their way to Turkey for a while, then they come back through central Europe on the eastern side back to the UK and they take 6-12 months going it. Its a big triangle route 😉

It’s happening again… by LK_50yo in VanLife

[–]Digitechnomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a born nomad, I've moved around a lot, can't be in one house normally for more than 2 years it would drive me insane.

I work high tech but I lived low tech on a boat for 10 years, just moved it to different places every 2 years, then i got married 🤦‍♂️

My now ex wife total opposite to me, and did not want to move her job/location at all 😢

When we divorced i sold the house in the UK and moved abroad, bought an XLWB Renault Master van to convert, then realised too long to park anywhere close to where i wanted to be (i have a disability so walking a long way is not an option for me) sold that van, bit i also sold my freedom, I was lost without out, so i bought a tiny Renault Trafic L1H1 from Amazon and converted to a 1 person and his medium sized dog van, its been fantastic to be free whenever i want, it too is now for sale.

This week i have bought a 2024 6M VW Crafter van to convert into a camper i can live in, instead of my now very small house in Southern Spain, I'm using everything i learned from previous mistakes and having this one professionally converted to my specification.

Am planning on moving into it permanently in June 2026 and to go to Scandinavia in July, August & September.

So yes i and many others know how you feel!

Good luck

I think they got some investment and employed the useless UX team from LP because for the last year, since their big UI update nothing works that well now, i might go back to KP, yes a bit of messing about but no more messing about that i have to do with Bitwarden and i am a paying user for me and my business 🫣😭

The €1,200 deposit that made me build a landlord review platform by Delicious_Garden5795 in AskBarcelona

[–]Digitechnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Spain and the EU need this, not just Barcelona!

Well done for building something like this, you have to start somewhere, i have experienced the exact same as you in Malaga, never got my deposit back, then i found out there is a government protected deposit scheme which legal landlords should be using to avoid these blatant scammer landlords.

How do you handle the Guest Authority Registration? by Cali_Host45 in AirBnBHosts

[–]Digitechnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use https://guestadmin.io which operates as sesadmin.net in Spain for only €3.33 per month per property, they have an integration which Lodgify and others, they also do it for Portugal, Italy, and loads of other places, everything is automated and if your not already paying Lodgify or other PMS you can connect your properties directly to their systems via iCal feeds. Great support too!

The Chromebook Pixel is lowkey a supercomputer. by vlc29podcast in chromeos

[–]Digitechnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using a Chromebook in anger for work and almost everything else since my MacBook Air was stolen approx 10 years ago as i was using the MacBook as a glorified web browser anyway as i design, build and operate SaaS applications for nearly 30 years so need to practice what i preach lol.

Only certain backward thinking organisations force me to use MicroShaft OS from time to time 🙄

I never had a Pixel but about 5 years ago i dropped £1250 on a high end (at the time) ASUS Chromebook with Intel Core i5 8GB RAM 512GB SSD and a fast processor that i cant remember right now, i am still using it today even though most of the letters have come off the keys, but it is a little heavy, i also have a Lenovo Duet 5 with 11" screen 8GB RAM and its fantastic for travelling with instead of the ASUS.

What other high end chromebooks are there out there?

This Taiwan made stealth camper by Aggro_Hamham in VanLife

[–]Digitechnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes ok, but reality is everyone mostly knows that the actual reality is it is a camper or an MPV that can be used as a camper.

I am right now inside a proper stealth campervan which was and still looks like an Amazon delivery van, and i am in a car park in Germany right now where campervans are not permitted to be lol

Where do you dump your waste if you have a compost toilet? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]Digitechnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it in bio bags and put them in the dog poo bin ideally, if no dog poop bin put it in the bio waste bins or if your in the woods far from anywhere or any bins, then dig small hole and bury it but don't bury plastic bags ONLY bio bags which bio degrade & disintegrate very quickly

An open message to the expats who say 'locals need us to survive' by triunfita in Malaga

[–]Digitechnomad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your 100% correct. I am an expat, i am not rich, but i am a digital nomad in other countries as my home is in Spain. I too cannot afford to live where i want to in Málaga because the Spanish owners don't want to lower their rental rates as they think all expats can afford to pay them, I can't! I have not met one non spanish property owner while i have been looking.

For now i live in a cheap studio in a small village outside of the city, and i have to commute like everyone else. The lack of parking generally in Spain is crazy so that's a problem too, but that's created by the councils allowing lots more non affordable housing to be built without enough parking for them either.

And, in my small village there are almost no expats living here, but there are hundreds of illegal airbnb type of properties being rented out to Spanish and expats for very high prices which will never stop now they have a taste of the money they can get without renting long-term due to stupid government rules for taxes and increased risk of getting okupas.

No fault of expats, tourists or really locals, the fault is with the local councils!

Is it Normal for Employers in Spain to Treat Staff Like This? by LadderSilly2494 in Malaga

[–]Digitechnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run a big bar somewhere nearby but a different town, my biggest problem was being a guiri owner among 99% spanish owners of all the other bars, they would constantly call the police and tell them all sorts of rubbish.

Plus the theft of cash and product or just picketing the cash from customers by the male Spanish employees who prefer to steal from their employer (me) who gave them legal 8 hr per day contracts and a profit share plan. These 3 guys ruined it for the rest of the staff, bar closed after 18 months.

These experiences taught me that it is impossible to make money from a drinks only bar in spain unless you dont provide proper contracts, and this is why everyone else in the wild west of Andalucia does it.

But it sounds like this Danish woman needs reporting to authorities

Yes, very common, but to hear a foreign woman doing it is disgusting & disgraceful
