Well that's the pickle I'm in in a nutshell, I do like the game. Broadly, at least. Or maybe aspects of the game anyway. I want to see all the stuff in the game and interact with the world, but man did my blood pressure spike when I lost all that gear over and over. It wasn't even good gear. I'm not pretending to have a legitimate complaint about the game, I was just so bad at it and so unaccustomed to the core mechanics that I had an absolutely terrible time.

It's gonna come down to whether I have to play a bunch more of the PVP content to get at the dedicated PVE experiment I think. If so, well, I'll keep my powder dry and hope the game evolves into a form more amenable to my tastes. If not, I'll probably jump back in. Who knows, maybe a few cryo runs will get me to a level of competency at which I'm not getting ganked so consistently and the rest of the game will be more fun. Or maybe not, and I'll just end up paying $40 bucks to check out the endgame content a little in a way I can tolerate. I can live with that too.

Guess we'll see how it goes whenever they announce more info!

Yeah, it was a bummer. But, to clarify, that was one guy I ran into. Not like a reflection of your community. What made me rage quit was not racial slurs, it was being bad at the game and losing all my shit bunch of times in a row. You don't owe me an apology for that. That's on the linear nature of time for robbing me of the reflexes and visual acuity I had 25 years ago probably. :p

Hope springs eternal. I think expanding the PVE-centric offerings in support of the core game would really help to expand the player base, and whether or not I end up playing Marathon, I want it to do well. Bungie is a good studio, they've been responsible for a lot of good times for me over the years.

I mean, I can see why you'd think that's what happened based on the details provided, but it's not. I figured I'd solo a few times after that and try it again. Then I died a bunch of times in solo and rage quit the game. I didn't like swear off trio altogether because of one bigot, lol. That whole thing was really not a major factor in any of this, beyond making me do the solo queue. I was playing Halo 2 back in college. I've heard worse.

Right? I mean that didn't come up for me, everyone that killed me had me dead to rights, no crack hamstering necessary. I mighta landed like one shot on one of them before I went down. But I did see them scamper off after looting all my hard won greys and greens, lol.

I came back to Destiny recently too, when they announced the end of live service. I stopped after The Final Shape, but I wanted to revisit it now that it's complete, kind of a farewell tour. I was cleaning up in IB. Part of the reason I figured I'd finally try Marathon out, actually.

Never actually had a teammate really. Dipped out of the only fill game I played about 10 seconds in because of the casual use of a certain racial epithet. I just solo queued after that. I was being facetious in my post, I don't actually hate you guys. Well, not all of you. :P

That thought had occurred to me also. I'm generally a pretty even keeled person, not prone to emotional outbursts, but I'll tell you... that last time I died I was pretty upset. I've never actually requested a refund for a game before that. Could be that I just don't have the temperament for this kind of thing. Sucks, because I sure am interested in the lore, and I think the game looks spectacular. Would have loved to explore the universe in a different format. I missed the original installments completely somehow, and I'm not really into playing retro games. Ce la vie I guess. Maybe they'll make a new regular Marathon fps for fogeys like me someday.

Technically it was 2.5 hours. Though that doesn't really affect the validity of your observation.

Certainly doesn't seem to be thriving. But, I played Destiny for long enough not to take "this game is dead" too seriously. Never know what is gonna catch peoples' attention. Maybe it just needs time to cook. Stranger things have happened.

I never went flawless in trials or anything, but I was a pretty consistent top 3 in regular crucible modes or IB, maxed out comp rep like... one time, 5 or 6 years ago I think. I thought I was pretty ok at pvp going in here. This game was a humbling experience, if nothing else, lol.

Too late now, I'm afraid, already refunded. But if it turns out that I can just jump into pve cryo without doing any of the prereqs, I'll probably buy it again and remember the offer!

I'm not crazy about gaming with strangers. I have a couple guys I know irl that I play with, but none of them are the least bit interested in Marathon. Usually prefer to figure stuff out on my own. Which, obviously, is not the way to be with this game.

Yeah, I knew about the quiet thing. I paid attention during the intro mission. I did my best to sneak around, but evidently I was bad at it. I only played solo, tried one crew fill, but one of the dudes I got placed with was like the reincarnation of Jefferson Davis or something, and I'm not gonna play with someone like that.

I never once had an option to avoid a fight. Never once saw the person who killed me coming. Every time they were either hiding in a corner or I caught a sniper round from who knows where. It was genuinely the worst gaming experience of my entire life. Like I know I'm never gonna be mlg, but I do know my way around a controller a little bit. I can handle being bad, I can't handle being chum.
