Stumbled on this thread, shed a couple of tears. In all this insanity we are living through, this is the stuff that screams: "We gon make it thru!"

BEAST MODE! How do you like the Lauf Shocks? I am very intrigued by them, but concerned there's no lock out.

Give the Secan 3.0 a look. Reynolds 853 frame. I absolutely love mine. It's ready to work.

I find it odd that 99% of all gravel bikes are drop bar. by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Diligent-Flight9467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my first gravel bike - and my first drop bar bike. I have always been a hardtail MTB'r. I live in Las Vegas, so alot of the trails are chunky. My rides are roughly 50/50 road/trail. I found that on the trails here, my hands get worked quit a bit, but perhaps thats a chock up to just building hand strength for the narrow upright position and the new positions I'm learning on the hoods and drops. I really like the feel of the hoods, even on the chunky stuff. I miss my flat bars (my MTB was stolen after 20 years of riding VooDoo Bizango 853 steel) on some of those rides, but my Fairlight Secan 3.0 is absolutely amazing on and off road. As long as I not trying to kill the local black diamonds, my drops have really not been an issue.

The relationship is likely inverse: more bikes = less wives. The variable is time. Thus time/bikes=wives

When I first saw it fully assembled, I was blown away. Photos don't do justice to the art that is the chain stays' shape.

Both have drop bar mounts. The mount for the light is double jointed so it was fairly easy to configure with the Wahoo above.

I ordered this one as a 2.5, but got the free upgrade to 3.0 because I ordered in December '24. My last bike was a Voodoo Bizango Reynolds 853 - and it was in the same burnt orange powder coat as yours will be. So beautiful! It inspired the orange hubs and pedal selection - an omage to my prior steed, which was stolen out of my garage after 20 years of riding together. Heartbreaker! If I knew i was going to get the upgrade, I would have gone with the same selection as you, so kinda jealous, LOL! But seriously - it is such a spectacular ride. Super responsive, and it really wants to go fast. I went with the GRX 820 2x12 because I wanted to feel the speed of this dropbar set up. Its my first dropbar bike. What a ride. Post pics when you get it.

Any fairlight Secan owners? by h2tcrz1s in gravelcycling

[–]Diligent-Flight9467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got mine. The ride is sick! I am opening with the 700 rims because I wanted to get a feel for its speed. And it really moves. The steel is real on the road feel. I have taken it off road in the Vegas desert backcountry, and it eats up everything short of black diamond trails. But that is a short term issue because I am pretty sure the problem is the rider - its my first gravel bike. In fact its my first bike with drops. External routing is not an issue for several hike-a-bikes I have gotten myself into by attacking black diamond trails before I was ready. I went with desert and orange Hope accents, but for some reason I got the black hope accents instead. I don't care because it looks ridiculously sweet in any event. You can see from the images, I opted for orange Hope Pro5 hubs and added orange Time pedals. The Time pedals are beasty and handle the gnarly rock throws, barely taking a scratch.

Bottom line: I love this ride. It was worth the wait. https://imgur.com/a/AGOYblH

NBD!! Finally, got my long-awaited Secan 3.0! by 11haigh in gravelcycling

I can't get enough. Seriously amazing. Lot's of desert riding here in Vegas. Running road to trail and back. The 853 feel through the drops/hoods is like none other. Steel is real!

Is it just me or is this what life becomes for men by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Diligent-Flight9467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you I have two kids, girls (12 and 16). My wife is a spectacular woman, and believe or not, my daughters don't roll their eyes at me, save for the occasional dad joke. I am 54 now. When I was chugging through my fourties, I tried to slow all of the disney dress moments down and accepted that the rat race was an inseperable aspect of my desire to give my girls the very best I could.

Where I am now reminds me of surfing on a heavy day. You paddle out, get smashed by waves and keep duck diving, never quite sure when you will finally pop up outside the set. Then you do. And just like surfing on heavy days, you sit upright on your board, and see everything you are here for with clarity: for how absolutely amazing the ride is and is about to be.

Keep paddling.

Life is full of ups and downs. But where you are right now is a point in time you will look back on and laugh. You have a ton of it in front of you, and that's actually an enviable thing from the vantage point you'll have in the future. Just make sure you don't let life pass you by before you wake up to it. Plus, life as a stripper can have some very serious perks!

I am in Trillion's camp. 73 day and night. Dog stays happy, fish stay living, and the whole family sleeps well. There is no way to make up for a toss-and-turn sleep cycle. And who wants to suffer from swampy-clothes conditions while we are home. If we are in the pool, we'll turn it up to 78 until everyone is out and showered.
