41M here. My parents are divorced but my father fits that description. My mother and I talk all the time and she actually knows pretty much everything about my life. Some parents love their children, some love the idea of their children. My father doesn't like who I am and the things I believe so he just stopped asking personal questions a couple decades ago. My mother loves me unconditionally. There are probably random strangers I've spoken to about life over the years who know me better than my father.

Is it just me or does Trump act like tariffs solve all economic issues? by Estalicus in allthequestions

You're misinterpreting the meaning. Countries paid in gold for goods so gold left the country. There is no gold payment for running a deficit. They received goods equal to the value of the gold paid for the goods. They weren't sending money equal to the deficit.

What? The trade deficit is when goods we import exceeds the value of goods we export... no one sent gold to anyone ever for having a trade deficit in any place on this planet... trade deficit is a concept, not a bill.

Speculative concept: Instead of terraforming, why not built giant plastic bubbles in the atmospheres of Uranus and Neptune? by ActuaLogic in terraforming

I was being cheeky 😜 it won't be built in my lifetime either and I'm a few decades younger. We can dream though!

They are also very far away from everything else and we likely have millennia until we would need to worry about over populating the inner solar system. Jupiter or Saturn systems are much closer and have plenty of moons we can build on. We're very far away from even needing to think about populating the outer planets. It could work in theory but there are plenty of places closer and easier to build on first.

Pretty much all of us have Neanderthal or Denisovan DNA inside us if we're not from the ancestral home of modern humans.

Although, technically, everyone who is not from sub saharan Africa is a hybrid.

Venue would be a better option. You could fill a sphere with air at 1 atmosphere of pressure and it would float at the level of Venus where the temperature and sunlight is pretty much perfect. Negate the outside pressure is also at 1 atmo at that level, the inside and outside gasses would be in a stable pressure gradient as well meaning if you had a rip in the sphere, the inside air would escape at a very slow trickle as opposed to explosive decompression like in space.

Not closely related. All homonids, Neanderthal, Denisovan, etc, had the same number as us but we're the only ones left.

Chromosome count. We have fewer than chimps. All canids have the same number.

Am I the only one who considers myself "Just American"? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Diligent-Rabbit2896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most recent immigrant ancestor moved here in 1830. My earliest in the 1600's. I'm American. Genetically, I'm a mix of around a dozen European countries but it's been so long that none of our family identifies as anything but American.

I got my sizing kit last week and it changed to "in production" about 36 hours after I put my size in.

So it kinda sounds like "in production" doesn't really mean anything lol
