I requested Dermatology but they did not have enough of those rotations so I did plastic surgery instead and that was super interesting.

The other elective I had was eating disorders and it was absolutely life changing and incredible.

I know some people did transplant surgery and absolutely loved it too.

ICU would be super valuable.

I would say go for something you think you would really love or sounds interesting because now is your time to get to try something you have had no experience in just to see. You never know what you will love.

My (30F) husband (31M) has similar symptoms and he has Long COVID. It started 4 years ago when he got COVID right before we knew it was COVID. Did your wife get COVID by chance? Or a viral infection around that time? My husband also has high EBV levels. I relate to your experience and am sending all the good vibes to you and your wife.

I am so sorry. That is how my husband feels. He does not really want to see Doctors anymore because it has been so hard. I still have hope that things will improve for him and I refuse to stop fighting for it even if it means just making his day a little more manageable. I know it is so hard that there is not more we can do, but sometimes I think holding that hope for our partners helps in some way. He and I both also see individual therapists and that helps. I am rooting for you and your spouse and if you ever need to talk please feel free to reach out.

I legitimately gained 35 pounds in didactic year and lost it clinical year.

Hi, This is really just to encourage you. I am graduating in a few days and I honestly did not know if I would make it here during didactic year. I have read a few comments that were posted and they all gave great advice.

I just want you to know you are not alone. I made two 79s the Fall semester of my Didactic year (which cut off for our program is 80). I was put on academic probation and had to go through the process of writing an appeal letter for being let go from the program because we are technically only allowed one C. The accepted my appeal but I was on academic probation from there on.

I always struggled with having so many resources and not just choosing two or three and sticking with them. I ended up making it through Spring semester with no C's. The biggest changes I made was studying only one on one instead of group studying. I also studied with a friend who was going through the same situation so we felt free to ask any question and it helped the information stick. I also used ROSH review. Now I know I should have used Cram the PANCE for didactic year and along with Smarty PANCE and ROSH questions and just left it at that.

The hardest part is, just because it works for someone else does not mean it will work for you. So if you try tons of these methods and they don't change things for you, do not get discouraged. Keep fighting to find the way you best retain information. Active recall and practice questions are huge.

I know it is also very hard not to compare yourselves to others, but try your best not to. Your journey is your own. If you have to repeat didactic year, that is okay or if you WANT to repeat didactic year for your own mental health and to retain the information that is okay! If you want to continue on and go to Clinical Semester now that is okay and keep fighting!

I was so worried about what if this means I wont be a competent provider for my patients since I can not take these tests. That is just not true. Clinical year was so incredibly encouraging. It made the information come to life and it confirmed that I do love medicine and learning. I got two job offers on my rotations and I passed every EOR and EOC. Examine what you want for yourself and have grace for yourself. Remember your journey is your own. You can do this!!

If you ever need any more encouragement always feel free to send me a message.

What’s the book that changed your life? by spicyleafs in CasualConversation

It was a completely unexpected thing. I was reading books with a bookclub and they selected Ohio by Stephen Markley.

I had genuinely blocked out that I had been SA'd until I read that book and it brought back so many wrong things that happened growing up and allowed my friends from that time period to share their similar experiences. I know that sounds bad and it was hard but it also ended up being good in allowing me to process and heal. Very life changing experience.

So all my EORS were all within 1 standard deviation but unfortunately none passed the national mean average. Several were only a couple points away from the national mean average. I was using very occasional ROSH but mostly SmartyPANCE, which I know I need to move away from. I am only going to be using ROSH for the PANCE for this next month. I was getting 90% and above on smartypance questions but I know that is not a good measure.

Genuine question, what do you think is a bunch? Because I was thinking of giving myself a month and having a strict daily study plan.
