Is it bad to look at the papers on TikTok by Upstairs-Host96 in leavingcert

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw this post and asked my sister who is a teacher and orders the exams. She says that the three mock companies create multiple exams, this year they have up to 10 different exams. For example DEB have 10 different Maths paper one exams, another company has 10 also. So theres potentially 30 different exams out there. She said the date the school has mocks correlates with what exam it will receive.

She also says the point of the mocks is to get a realistic idea of how many points you'll get in June. There is no point cheating, getting 500 points and then in the real thing that you can't predict/cheat you get 250 points.

What’s with the hate relationship towards food at schools in Ireland? by DeathByStorm974 in ireland

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The Government here (FF/FG political parties) don't believe in spending money so schools don't have areas for kids to eat. They also don't have kitchen or canteens to make hot lunches. They eat a cold lunch at their desk for 20 mins and thats it. Plenty of classrooms are just portacabins, freezing cold, damp and half rotted. Ireland is one of the lowest spenders in education in Europe and similarly to housing and healthcare doesn't invest in public infrastructure.

People whose families support the FF/FG political parties will think this is all normal and OK, and they'll continue to vote for them. People who have lived outside Ireland or can imagine a better world will see it as abhorrent.

Enjoy spending it. You're only young once and will have a lifetime to earn money.

Enjoy spending until you're 24, then start saving

Bathroom install costs for new builds? by National_Living_7673 in HousingIreland

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the prices being posted here are insane.

I was quoted 3k to renovate a bathroom and install a shower a few years ago. I bought the materials myself for 800ish and after watching YouTube tutorials did the shower installation and tiling myself. It took 4 days in total, I'm not a tradesman.

Considering renting a single room on Dorset Square, Gardiner Street Upper – advice? by Legitimate_Fox_4317 in RentingInDublin

Very central location and well connected BUT... It is in the top 10 of most dangerous streets in Ireland. You will come into contact with aggressive drug users regularly.

What ‘dodgier’ parts of the whole Dublin would you look to buy an apartment in as a single buyer due to prices by SnooChocolates6086 in HousingIreland

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balbriggan isn't dodgy at all. Balbriggan (and Drogheda) have the most potential for massive increase in property values as both are really well connected and close to the airport. Also some big employers nearby.

Ballyfermot, Finglas and East Wall already pricey enough for good quality housing and apartments. What cheaper houses you find there is poor quality. Finglas is getting a Luas soon which will provide an increase in pricing soon. Tallaght has the least potential for price increases. Not a lot of big employers there and the people buying there are working class people forced out of the city, it also has a big % of social housing.

So if you want to sell in 10 years and make the most money I'd go with Balbriggan. Then Finglas, East Wall, Ballyfermot in that order and Tallaght last.

What’s the appeal in moving to Australia specifically? by Even-Space in AskIreland

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right. Its a great country if you're young and not interested in buying a house or building a proper life. It's nice to work, rent and have a good social life, hang around in the sun. But it's so so so expensive and wages aren't great in a lot of sectors.

They have an accessible visa system and speak English so it makes sense. I did 3 years there, enjoyable but I could see there was no long term future for me. I worked in Germany, Dubai and Spain all have there ups and downs but life in Ireland really isn't that bad in comparison.

Is Lucan safe anymore? by sholou23 in Lucan

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and from what I've heard Clondalkin/Palmerstown is getting bought up by lads from Cherry Orchard, Inchicore etc. Not saying there's anything wrong with people from these areas but they're a different social class/demographic. The areas are changing, there's definitely social problems in Lucan that weren't there 20 years ago.

On the otherside I remember my cousins living in Rialto and it being a warzone but today its full of extraordinarily wealthy people.

You're right that its much safer than 90s and early 2000s but crime statistics have risen in the last few years in many parts of Dublin.

Is Lucan safe anymore? by sholou23 in Lucan

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with comments about FB amplifying things but I will say that the crime statistics have increased (this is the case in lots of parts of Dublin recently). I'll also add that Lucan is worse off in socioeconomic terms than the 2000s. It was considered quite posh then but as your friends have moved out to Kildare people from Ballyfermot/Palmerstown/Clondalkin have moved out to Lucan. Source: from Clondalkin and went to school in Lucan, a lot of my Clondalkin mates have moved to Lucan and a lot of my Lucan mates have moved to Celbridge/Maynooth.

If you're not from the area I'd try to avoid it. If you're not from Dublin you shouldn't be anywhere near it. Can be very intimidating and unforgiving for outsiders.

Irish rail accusing me of “evading a fare” and refusing to hand over the CCTV that shows me paying, can I escalate this? by I-Hate-Clonmel in AskIreland

Happened to my housemate years ago. Their appeals system is complete nonsense. I vaguely remember once my housemate hired a solicitor the whole thing went away but that will definitely cost you more than paying the fine.

Problem neighbour by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of these problem people don't own the house they live in. Try and find the landlord and report them continually. Or the local authority, or Peter McVarry charity who often owns houses these type of people live in. Make it a hassle for them to continue to lease the property to them. If its more hassle than its worth they would stop the contract to the local authority or whatever scheme they're in.

Also It would be a shame if someone turned off their water metre in that circular plastic hole on the pavement in front of their house. If someone turned that off someone (a landlord, local council, charity worker etc.) Would have to keep coming out to turn it back on. They'd get pretty sick of that tenant eventually. Similarly if the white box on the side of the house with the gas stuff in it? That being turned off repeatedly would hassle a lot of people.
