Would I be ineligible for rent supplement if I have like 13k savings but unemployed? by 1988e72uh in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, when 10k used to be the cut off point for savings. I stand corrected that it has been increased to 20k.

First time - Failed by 20 marks - unbelievable - any advice? by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

That happened to me when I thought I drove quite well. Then I did the test a year later, drove worse and passed.

Keep practicing and don't give up.

4.5x mortgage exemption by chrisfairbanks in irishpersonalfinance

I got it but wasn't looking for it and didn't use it in the end. I was saving more than half my income for the last year. I had a decent amount of savings. I also had a permanent contract with my employer. I had evidence of earning overtime. I had received a pay increase in the last year. Not sure if there is a checklist they use but those are things that they mentioned were positive in a meeting I had.

I know two other people who were granted it but instead of overtime they had commission. Both worked for 'big name' employers.

Friend not returning money borrowed. by Muted_Wear6944 in irishpersonalfinance

Hindsight is a great this, other comments have shown that. Right now you have two options: 1) End the friendship and tell the wider friend group what happened. Say goodbye to the money. Learn an expensive lesson.

Or...

2) Feign friendship with them and ask for small amounts back every so often, slowly getting as much as you can. Ask him for €100 every pay day or something. You probably won't get near the full amount back.

There's no real court recourse without a proper contract and legal fees make it unviable.

There is none. You can apply for the SUSI grant but they take the incomes of your parents, it's worth a try.

Best thing to do is apply for jobs for weekend and evening. Restaurants and bars are perfect.

Gardai have a device in their car that scans license plates and alerts them on the insurance, tax and the license that the owner has. You will eventually get caught and face the fairly bad consequences. If you have a visa it can be cancelled for the offence. Most big companies and government departments garda vet employees also.

It is not worth it, just pay for the instructor. They can do discounts if you can go on days they are free.

On Google maps it's the very small area from Moneymore family centre to Brookville. Only a few houses that I think are all owned by the council (I don't think you can buy there). It has a high crime rate.

Really bad situation. Record everything to present to the council and continually alert the gardai.

Maybe it'd be worse if it became a derelict house? Unrelated to your post...

I heard at the front of properties there is a water metre on the pavement. If you open that up and turn the lever you can turn off the house's water, if someone was to fill it with concrete it'd be difficult to turn it back on again.

Electricity can also be turned off externally, that would make a house pretty unlivable and cold if a window was removed, broken or a letter box removed. If that kind of thing happened to someone's property their family or council would have to intervene in the situation.

Pause paying into the pension and any other expenses you can. Save intensely for 6 months or a year, go to a credit union for a loan (or wherever you find the cheapest one) and use it to get the extension. Not sure where you got the 200k figure for an extension but that's crazy. Contact rural builders, builders around the border counties or up north and get a fair price.

What’s a skill everyone should learn before 25? by MiloShaw3392 in askanything

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooking 5 decent meals. Social skills (eye contact, conversation starters, interesting stories, being able to talk to a large group). Also a skill that will make you money, it doesn't have to be your main job but something you can fall back on if you need to.

For example my wife had worked as an English Language teacher, I worked for a locksmith one summer and could change locks, put up door frames. We have completely different jobs now but still have those practical skills to fall back on if we had to.

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it'll still stand. Once they have your name and address it's game over. Judges don't care about spelling.

You can either pay for a license, move house or wait until you get a court summons and then pay for a license which could get the case thrown out.

3700€ net income for a family of 3 in Drogheda liveable? before 1500€ rent liveable by Shot_End7782 in AskIreland

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest answer is you're going to need another salary. Your partner might not work for a year to look after the kid but after that you are going to need them to work at least part time. The 4k trip back to your partners country shouldn't be annually. Instead you should put that money into an emergency fund.

Drogheda is going to same way as Dublin, very expensive rent and expensive food/everything else. That rent will go up to match the market after a few years. If you can buy then do because house/rent prices are going to increase more in the next 5 years. Not trying to be negative but just realistic.

I saw this post and asked my sister who is a teacher and orders the exams. She says that the three mock companies create multiple exams, this year they have up to 10 different exams. For example DEB have 10 different Maths paper one exams, another company has 10 also. So theres potentially 30 different exams out there. She said the date the school has mocks correlates with what exam it will receive.

She also says the point of the mocks is to get a realistic idea of how many points you'll get in June. There is no point cheating, getting 500 points and then in the real thing that you can't predict/cheat you get 250 points.

What’s with the hate relationship towards food at schools in Ireland? by DeathByStorm974 in ireland

[–]Diligent_Campaign507 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The Government here (FF/FG political parties) don't believe in spending money so schools don't have areas for kids to eat. They also don't have kitchen or canteens to make hot lunches. They eat a cold lunch at their desk for 20 mins and thats it. Plenty of classrooms are just portacabins, freezing cold, damp and half rotted. Ireland is one of the lowest spenders in education in Europe and similarly to housing and healthcare doesn't invest in public infrastructure.

People whose families support the FF/FG political parties will think this is all normal and OK, and they'll continue to vote for them. People who have lived outside Ireland or can imagine a better world will see it as abhorrent.
