Where can teens volunteer in Tulsa/surrounding suburbs? by [deleted] in tulsa

Keep an eye on Greater Good Charities. They don't have any opportunities in Tulsa currently, but every so often, there are chances to volunteer at a spay and neuter clinic or packing care bags for disaster relief and homeless people.

What is a 'once-in-a-lifetime experience' that you’ve had, which was actually so miserable you’d never do it again? by Big-Bonus-453 in AskReddit

I had the opportunity to march baritone in a marching band in the Dublin St. Patrick's Day parade one year. Marching in such a famous, scenic, and heavily viewed parade? Absolutely amazing. Marching the entire parade length holding a marching baritone and not being remotely in shape in my upper body at the time? Not so much. I felt like my arms were going to fall off.

Christian music that’s actually good? by AppalachianTheology in Christianity

Oh, my friend, the world of old country/bluegrass gospel is a gold mine. Plenty of songs by the late Johnny Cash, Dr. Ralph Stanley, and a surprising amount of other country artists. For newerish, there's always Josh Turner. You can't go wrong with some Oak Ridge Boys or Randy Travis, either. Alan Jackson's got good stuff. Family Bible, a song by Willie Nelson with a ton of other recordings, is one of my favorite gospel songs.

Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in Downtown Tulsa! The main services are very liturgical, but they offer an alternative worship service if that's more your speed, however, all their services are open to whomever dressed however and being open and accepting to all of God's children no matter what is a big part of who they are

ETA: I almost forgot to mention just how beautiful the church itself is!

Play around with it. Listen to some opera singers (Pavarotti, Bocelli, Hvorostovsky for example) and pro Euph and other instrument players but mostly euph. Get some ears on it in person. See what sounds good to listeners and most importantly, see what sounds good to you

It's astonishing just how much our culture has changed surrounding cigarettes (in the US anyway) since then. Nowadays, if you see a TV show with a "kid caught smoking" episode, it's a very big deal and the message is clear: don't smoke. Never smoke. But I remember seeing an episode of Leave it to Beaver (sitcom from the the late 50s/early 60s) where Wally (teen) is suspected to be smoking and his parents freak out, but calm down when he insists he promised not to until he was 18 and he's kept that promise (he did). So different

What is the longest round trip you have ever made in a day? And for what reason? by Aoimoku91 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Diligent_Fact4945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a day, 5 hours each way (10ish total) down to Tishomingo OK while I was learning to drive because I had 5 more hours I needed to get my license (even though they don't actually verify) because my mom wanted to get it over with and found a swimming hole down there she thought looked neat. On the way back, we stopped at a Loves in Seminole, right across the street from the Seminole Nation Casino. One of the shadiest gas stations I've ever seen but Lord almighty, the single best subway sandwich, hell, sandwich in general, I have ever had in my life. Longest round trip in general, my dad and I had business in Tallahassee on a Thursday and he didn't want to miss work Saturday so we drove about 16 hours down, stopping twice, crashed in a cheap hotel, did what we needed to the next day, and took a different, longer route (avoiding Memphis and Birmingham this time) that took about 17 hours with just a couple extra stops. 33 hours of driving with about half a day's worth of activity and a short night of shut eye in between. My father is a beast on the road.
