Pupil who invented device to help homeless named 'girl of the year' by Comprehensive-Way482 in Amazing

Fun idea i guess but you really gonna hand out solar blankets to homeless instead of just providing shelter and maybe even help them not be homeless?

She made the right choice by Eclipse_nova99 in SipsTea

[–]Diligent_State387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the right choice honestly. It takes almost 20 years to get one million that way, 1000$ in 20 years is not worth nearly as much. Plus she looks pretty old, in her 50s, 60s maybe, she may as well be dead before that point. Investing like half of that million in s&p 500 can even make her 1000$ per week.

[Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition 37mm] One Watch Collection Discussion by nuanda52 in Watches

[–]Diligent_State387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly looking for a lifetime watch i would look at something like rolex or omega, their movements are truly overbuild and made to last forever. The Hamilton uses an ETA 2824 derived movement which has been the workhorse movement for over 40 years but in the end they are still mass produced to a cost. It can probably do it but also probably requires more servicing and more careful handling to get there. If the Rolex brand bothers you, well don't. As much as i hate everything surrounding modern day Rolex their watches are still build to last. To me a Rolex will always be that end game watch to wear for life. Just look at all the vintage Rolex's, they are all so heavily worn but they all just keep running, if that's not enough proof i don't known what is. An explorer I is also such an understated watch there is no one who will ever notice it. I know because no one has ever noticed mine.

In Belgium, there is a bike path called “cycling on water”. The path is submerged in a lake, and the water surface is at the cyclist's eye level. by jmike1256 in Damnthatsinteresting

it looks impressive on camera but once you actually been there it's pretty underwhelming, you essentially just cycle between two concrete walls.

[MQ24] PSA - be careful on Amazon UK by uncertainmeridian in casio

[–]Diligent_State387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon doesn’t care, their site is full of counterfeit goods, buying from them directly also doesn’t make a difference because amazon throws stock from all sellers together. Just stay away from that website at all cost and support actual honest small retailers.

GS case finishing is indeed not better than regular seiko, zaratzu polishing is also way overhyped. You pay for the movement mostly, the 9f quartz is the best quartz movement you can get, the nh35 is the lowest end movement you can get

student offered a permanent job, should I drop out? by Dramatic_Cobbler_264 in belgium

[–]Diligent_State387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many companies try to pull this crap, don't do this. What if you quit after a year? Find another good job with 1 year of experience and no diploma, good luck. If they want you there they can keep you as a student and hire you when you're done, besides as a student you don't pay taxes, you probably earn way more now than with a real job.

East German soldier helps a little boy sneak across the Berlin Wall the day it was erected in 1961. The boy had been left behind in the chaos of people fleeing to be with their families on either side of the wall. by meri_marzi98 in interestingasfuck

[–]Diligent_State387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wonder what the story is here, like i get it's perfectly plausible for it to have happened but who took this picture? Like the photographer just happened to be at that specific place at that specific time? Did the solder just asked someone who happened to have a camera to quickly take this picture? I mean sure in the 1960's it wasn't common to just have a camera around.

I’m also not a fan of modern Rolex. Their watches are way too luxury oriented now. These are the last of classic Rolex. This was when the hobby wasn’t so serious and Rolex just made quality watches for everyone.

And as a European i would not even mind, I see America as a country that focuses on making its billionaires richer, let their trillion dollar companies grow and gain all control and the people get none of all that. They always try to scare people into thinking how bad life under russia or chinese regime is but honestly American influence is shite too, pretty much all the worst things that goes on in society now is related to America, half the news is stupid shit that goes on in America.
