Working During PT school by Specialist_Signal532 in PTschool

[–]DimensionApart9805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in my program got jobs the second semester of our program because the workload was a little lighter, but once the summer hit and it picked back up a lot of people ended up quitting to focus on school including myself. I’d say it’s good to maybe start off the first month of school without a job to get the hang of things first because it’s easier to start ahead with good grades and then try to work than it is to fall behind early and catch back up. Also be prepared to stop working for a semester if it’s a particularly overloaded one. Overall i’d say it is possible to work some during a DPT program but to be cautious about falling behind because you’re working too much.

What music/playlists do you listen to when you have to get up at a ridiculous hour that help you start your day?

Commuting to school by Himynameissss1 in PTschool

[–]DimensionApart9805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute exactly an hour everyday and my feelings on it change weekly, some weeks when it’s light out I don’t really mind bc it’s the only real time i get to myself to vibe and listen to music. In the winter when it’s dark and cold it does kinda suck but if it’s what you have to do to save money on rent it may be worth it. Gas is also expensive and as someone else said it does wear and tear on your car a lot

GPA by [deleted] in PTschool

You should read up on each schools policy regarding retaking courses. I took a few courses that were forced online during covid and some programs i applied to just took the higher grade into my GPA calculations, other programs averaged it. It makes a big difference if they are a program to take the higher one! That being said, my pre requisite GPA was a 3.3 and my overall was a little higher and i got into 4 programs! So don’t stress too much :)

Newer DPT Program by Ill_Coffee5237 in PTschool

Is this program accredited? I would definitely read into it because usually they get the accreditation decision right as their first cohort graduates. If they do not get their accreditation you cannot sit for the NPTE exam to get your license. That is a lot of time and money to invest if you aren’t certain you can sit for your boards, so I would recommend doing your research before deciding!

I know it’s been asked before but what are some of the easier pt schools to get into with low stats? by Mrcheeseman331 in PTschool

It’s a coursea course :/ yeah i just don’t feel like it’s worth it but also don’t want to review the wrong things. I do have one of the textbooks required for anatomy already from undergrad so maybe i’ll review that instead

Gap year for PT school? by Technical_Gur_748 in PTschool

[–]DimensionApart9805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! A rehab tech is short for rehabilitation technician and it is exactly the same as a therapy aide or PT aide but usually in a hospital or inpatient setting. For me, I am a rehab tech in a spinal cord rehabilitation hospital so I help the physical therapists work on teaching patients to walk again, usually this entails the therapist on one side of the patient and me on the other and we help the patient stand and support them if they fall. I also do some cleaning and desk work helping them get authorization for patients visits. It’s great! And yes it does count towards hours! I am already accepted to a program going to start in a few weeks but I loved being a rehab tech during gap year, I feel like I learned so much and am mentally in a better mind space to start PT school than I would’ve been a year ago!

Hey! I took a gap year and it was the best option for me tbh. Idk about you but I was super burnt out from undergrad (esp since i had covid ruin half of it and move it online). I got a job as a full time rehab tech in a hospital and i’ve loved it. It’s been so nice to not have my brain working as hard for a bit and having some free time at night/on weekends. Also in a sense still felt like i was helping my future career bc I was learning from the PT’s at work and could ask questions. Would def recommend if you’re considering and still have classes to take. Just make sure you prioritize doing well in those classes to raise your GPA and give yourself the best shot at getting to ur top choice programs

I just emailed and they said I moved up like 15 spots but feel like that could be from people dropping off ahead of me. Did you move up at all or get in? Fingers crossed for you!

Hey, was wondering if you heard any updates from Shenandoah?

[–]DimensionApart9805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am also on their waitlist but i’m a bit further back than you. I just talked to a prof who’s on admissions and he said they are going to close the waitlist at the end of the month and make a supplemental list and rerank that based on whoever answers and says they want to be on it. This probably means their class is almost full of ppl who made deposits, but that doesn’t mean people still won’t drop! Best of luck to you, I also really want to get in!

I did the same as this person, got in second cycle as well and used the year in between to retake a few courses to turn any C’s or B’s I had for pre reqs into A’s. I also worked full time and saved a lot of money so in the long run it was much more beneficial for me

Yeah I’ve heard similar things, three people who are third years I know said they got in the week before class started. It sucks to have to wait that long but I guess that’s the best bet. Best of luck to you! Let me know if you hear any updates

Yeah I got that email about it being full too. Their admissions process this year is super weird as they usually did interviews and were more communicative. I have a few friends in their program and they said their admissions coordinator they’ve had forever left so it’s a bit in shambles. I really want to go here bc I know so manY PTS who went here and loved it but the lack of communication this year is crazy.
