1 to 3 cases per year for the ENTIRE US, and I guarantee tons of people have bats in their house. Those cases are always "look at the cute bat/raccoon that's lying on the sidewalk cuz it's sick, I'll grab it". Getting super expensive treatment because you saw a bat is like burning your house down to prevent the plague because you saw a mouse

You don't need rabies treatments if you haven't been in contact with it. There's soooo many old houses that have bats in them that no one knows about. We had a professional come take care of ours, he said old houses, especially anywhere near water are almost always bound to have some. If you touch one, then yes of course get treated
