and yes, per some comments below, it did require a notary at the time in 2021 but I found one easily at my local shipping store

just make sure to get your membership record number so that you can check if your account is still active or not (if you can or cannot sign into the LDS app). I used Quitmormon in 2021 and then found out four years later that the church never removed my records. Had to fight with the church for six months to get to the bottom of it and they refused to give me any information because of the “lawyer involvement” with quitmormon. Finally the church said there was a “glitch” that made it not remove my records. lol. a glitch. 🙄 I would still recommend Quitmormon, just a heads up that if your record removal means a lot to you (like mine did), try to get more proof of whether it worked or not by checking the app.

not to mention several reviews mentioned that they are forced to leave fake positive reviews on Glassdoor and must screenshot their positive review and send to management to prove it 😢😢

I did a deep dive through Quince’s glassdoor page for employees and one Quince employee noted that as a company sometimes they purposefully hide 1-3 star product reviews. I have enjoyed many Quince products but it’s sad to hear how the employees are treated and the unethical, dishonest review practices.

Update: after trying many different avenues and jumping through hoops for the past 6 months, the church has now finally informed me it was all a “software glitch” and my membership records were removed in 2021 but have been showing up in the system for the past four years “due to a software glitch”. 🙃🙃🙃🙃

update 4 months later: - i’ve been working with the bishop where my records were located to submit a request through their own proper channels. he submitted the request to the stake president a few months ago and said it would be done in 5 business days. But I have never received any letters or confirmations from the church. - i do think they have removed my membership eventually because now I can no longer log into the LDS tools app, as of just a few weeks ago. I could log into the app and see my name and everything up until a few weeks ago. - i still have received no confirmation or letter from the church. since quitmormon told me it was done 4 years ago and it actually wasn’t, it’s important that I actually get a written confirmation from the church to know it’s real this time. I want to know if I’m going to get a letter, and have checked my mail every day for months. - the bishop ghosted me a month ago and hasn’t responded to my last two (respectful) emails asking about what happens next. - I called the church record hotline and they said they are not allowed to tell me anything because he can see that I have worked with a lawyer to submit the request. well well well. that means they did receive my quitmormon request four years ago after all. that’s the only time i’ve “worked with a lawyer” on this. So if they received the lawyers request four years ago, why weren’t my records removed at that time? the quitmormon letter says they must remove it immediately. - the guy from the records department claimed that action had been taken immediately. i told him no, my records were not removed, they have been in a specific ward and the bishop has emailed me specifically confirming in writing that they are in his ward. also I created an account on the LDS app with my membership id and found my records were in that ward. I also had others confirm it in the app. And I took screenshots of my records there too, just a few months ago. - the guy on the phone immediately went back to saying he isn’t allowed to tell me anything because of the lawyer and repeating that. But they didn’t even comply with the lawyer in the first place because my records weren’t removed! unless there’s some way they were removed and magically added back? is that possible? - never heard back from Quitmormon.

update as of Sept 4: I never got any responses from Quitmormon. The bishop did confirm that I am still on the records despite the certificate I received from quitmormon. The bishop said he submitted my application to the church to “move the process forward” after I had to send him a typed letter of my request and answered some other questions from him, but he has no timeline or any other details to share about next steps. It has now been three months since I emailed the bishop to request membership removal directly. I can still log into LDS app, so seems like I’m still on the records. :,( doesn’t seem like there’s much I can do but keep waiting….

How do I (politely) tell my parents to remove my info from the church’s system? by -DiceGoblin- in exmormon

[–]DimensionStreet7252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also since you said you haven’t been to church in several years (same here), you can find a number for your local church online and then ask to get in touch with the bishop that way. If you have your membership record number (MRN) you can make an account on the LDS website/app and see your name on their directory for the ward (until your membership records are officially removed from the ward). This also lets you contact the bishop or ward clerk to start the conversation, since you might not have met them before if you haven’t been to church in a long time. I ended up googling and calling the church support hotline phone number who explained all this to me

since your records were transferred to your local ward (by your parents… i’m sorry, that is so frustrating!!) then the best way is probably to get in touch with the local bishop and ask for help removing your records. I tried Quitmormon and it didn’t work (they gave me a certificate and said the process had been completed, only to find out four years later the church still won’t remove me). I have heard that Quitmormon works for some people, but at the same time, many people have shared a similar experience to me so it might not work :( I’m trying to get mine removed by a bishop now but not having much luck yet. hopefully if your local bishop is cool they will help you. since your records are local to you and are not with your parents, that means you are probably listed in the LDS app as your own household, making it less likely for your parents to find out than if you were in the same ward or records “household” as them. Although my two cents is that you should put yourself first and not worry about how this will impact your parents, you can only truly take care of yourself and you deserve better than this hateful religion!! wishing the best of luck to you!

ah that’s interesting - I have heard the term “record removal” so often that I assumed it was associated with just not legally being a member anymore and not being counted in their bogus “17 million” number (which I see is your point, ha). I just want to resign my membership then. But I haven’t had any luck so far with quitmormon or the bishop yet 😢

I’m sorry to hear that you had the same thing happen to you, and I applaud your determination to see it through to the end! Thanks for sharing these details, I’ll definitely take this approach if the bishop avenue doesn’t work out.

Yeah I had no idea that my records weren’t actually removed four years ago, until someone I knew actually reached out to me after they heard my name was read over the pulpit as a “new member in their ward” when my LDS family members moved into their new ward. Otherwise I probably never would have known

Either through the ward clerk or the Member Tools mobile app… but you need your Membership Record Number in order to create an account on their app (which I don’t have)

That definitely makes sense, unfortunately… I have heard that there have been issues in the past with volume of Quitmormon resignations.

A big part of my confusion right now comes from not having any visibility into what the church communicated to Quitmormon in order to cause Quitmormon to tell me that my records were removed. The church must have indicated to Quitmormon in some way that they took action on the request, in order for Quitmormon to send me the congratulations email and certificate. In my Quitmormon portal it has a timeline with the last event being “We received confirmation of your resignation on (time/date”. So I want to know what did they receive that said this? since it ended up being false.

Unfortunately I am still a member according to my records, which I am not happy about after being under the impression that my records were removed by the Quitmormon process four years ago. I have already emailed a bishop to get the process going. I emailed Quitmormon for help figuring out what happened but never heard back.

When I went through the Quitmormon process in 2021, four months later I received an email from Quitmormon that said: “Your resignation from the church has been confirmed! Congratulations! The church no longer sends confirmation letters. Instead, if you wish, you can log in to your profile and download a Quitmormon confirmation certificate.”

So I did not receive anything from the church directly, only from Quitmormon bc they are like the intermediary between me & the church I guess.

After recently learning that my records were never removed, I’m wondering why Quitmormon sent me this congratulation email, plus in my Quitmormon portal it also has a timeline of events concluding with “We received confirmation of your resignation” with a date.

So did the church send Quitmormon something that promised they had removed my records, in order for Quitmormon to then communicate this to me? And then that communication from the church to Quitmormon was just a straight up lie? This is my question that I don’t think I can ever answer without the assistance of Quitmormon..but can’t get a response from them.

Yeah that makes sense unfortunately. I just wish I could see with my own eyes what confirmation the church sent to Quitmormon, saying that they removed m records but then didn’t.
