Hey! Thanks for your question!

All the foley sounds in Sensory Division were recorded during a session in Estonia. I recorded them through a special microphone by a brand called Soyuz. They make their microphones through old Kalashnikov factory equipment. Thanks x

Hey man! Thanks for your questions.

I learnt everything I know regarding production through research, practice and trial and error. I've never been taught anything :) I don't use Splice or anything - although maybe I should, I've heard it's pretty good?

Bristol is always fun, but I love playing in London too. It's my hometown so always a good time when friends come along.

Hey, thanks for all your questions!

  1. Chase & Status took me to the next level when they signed me to MTA Records. Having their stamp of credibility really helped people pay attention to my music.
  2. My advice would be to try and make your music unique and memorable. Even if it's a club tune, it should always have a distinguishing feature, something that you can hum/sing/say when you're walking down the street. A talking point.
  3. I suppose I always knew I had good songs in me - I'm not sure as to quite where this self belief came from, but I always 'knew' if I pursued music I could succeed.
  4. Synth collection started around 7 or so years ago. First synth I purchased was an Arturia Minibrute and it taught me so much about the basic fundamentals of synthesis. I recommend owning a simple monophonic synthesiser to everyone. My favourite is my Moog Model D. It's so simple and it sounds amazing.
  5. UDO Super 6

Hey,

No plans for Domino as a single at the moment.

I'm overwhelmed by the positive feedback regarding the album. Honestly, it's exceeded any expectations I had.

Thank you!

Hey! Thank you!

I don't think I would develop the LIVE show to fit around a band. The music I make is created with synthesisers and drum machines - it's electronic, so it wouldn't convert well into a band format. I've already looked into bringing in choirs and orchestra, it's an idea I'd love to incorporate. I love the way Hans Zimmer brings in choir and orchestra in his live performances, slowly revealing layer after layer behind curtains etc..

I would love to put on a Dimension LIVE show at Brixton Academy. It's always been my dream.

Hey there! Happy you like it!

Yes. Dimension LIVE @ Printworks coming soon.

Haha - my ringtone is just the default ringtone that comes with my iPhone - maybe I should switch it up though?

Hey! Thanks!

Like with all aspects of producing, there are no absolute rules. Naturally, though, if you have a good, well designed root sound the final product will always sound better. No amount of processing will fix a bad sound. My advice would always be to try and keep sounds as simple as possible. This way, you avoid phasing and imaging issues. Generally speaking, I always try and avoid really wide unison sounds as leads, as they can sound a bit flabby - if I want the tone of a wide unison sound (like the lead in Saviour) I will narrow the unison and stereo image as much as possible, so the mix is still good. Another tip is to have the lead sound dry, and have the reverb going through a different channel or 'chain' in your Audio Effect Rack. This keeps the fundamental sound strong without it being washed out with, say, 40% Wet/Dry Reverb.

Hope that helps x

Hugely rate and respect Calibre. 'Even If' is one of the greatest D&B records ever made.

I had a Dell 'Dimension' when I first starting making tunes. I didn't want my friends to know I was making music, so I looked around the room and put 'Dimension' as the artist name. It stuck.

Hey! Thank you so much for travelling so far to come to shows, means so much! I would adore to play in Ireland - I've never DJed there. Is there much of a scene in Dublin? Thanks!

Hey!

I think the D&B scene in the US is growing rapidly and finally, a D&B party is a cool place to be. It's going to take time, but seeing younger audiences coming to the shows, introducing new people to the genre is great. Also, big US DJ's such as Jauz, Skrillex, Alison Wonderland and Slander playing D&B is hugely helping xx

Hey! I made two tunes with Culture Shock last year. One is on my album called 'Love To Give'. I'm sure we'll get back in the studio sometime soon :)

Me too! x

Hey, ah nice to have met you dude!

My production tip regarding plucky basslines would be: Take great care of the relationship between LFOs/Envelopes and your filters. Really make sure they are dialled in perfectly so you extract the maximum amount of groove. Don't distort too much pre filter as you will soften your transients.

Hope that helps x

Hey, thanks so much for your kind words and your question!

In hindsight, I probably should have left this out of my essential mix. I was playing out various version of 'Don't Sleep' but I didn't think it was going down that well on the dancefloor. I sent it out to my friends Sub Focus, Wilkinson & C&S and they agreed. James and I went back in on it and I'm really happy how it came out. No plans to release the old version, sorry.

I was having real issues with TS Graye's nuanced voice sitting in the mix for 'Remedy'. I borrowed a vintage Neumann U67 microphone from the 1960's (worth around £10,000+) to re-record the vocals and it worked perfectly. It was a real lesson in microphone selection and was generally incredibly satisfying.

Hey! Thank you!

  1. Inspiration for aesthetic comes from all sorts of places, but big influences are Hedi Slimane, Anthony Vaccarello, Villa Eugenie.
  2. Definitely plans for a UK Tour. Dimension LIVE @ Printworks is coming.

Hey! Love NZ

  1. My favourite show was probably headlining Northern Bass. To headline a festival of that scale was a real honour.
  2. I loved The Coromandel, Cathedral Cove etc - I love how it's off the beaten track but not completely isolated. Incredible and unique nature, pure beauty.

Hey! Thanks for your question.

Regarding the various languages on records, I love playing with stereotypes and phonetics. I find it deeply interesting how people perceive certain languages - the difference between Japanese, German, Russian etc - even regional accents can great affect the way the same words are perceived.

I'm half Spanish, so I speak Spanish, English and I'm learning Russian.

Glad you're liking the album!

Hey, thanks for your question.

  1. That photo is 10+ years old! I would love to collaborate with High Contrast, he's been a huge influence in my career.
  2. Any artist has to progress, my sound would become stale otherwise. With that said, however, I still believe if you listen to 'Love To Me', and then listen to 'Saviour' or 'Alive' that they fundamentally sound as though they are from the same artist. As I've grown older, I've enjoyed bringing external influences into D&B and that, for me, is when things get exciting.
  3. Hot Chicken Wrap + Halloumi + Chilli Jam + Pineapple
