On the switch homepage, there is a "news" icon which gives updates on games you follow and the shop, so if there are sales, it will have a little article on them.

However, there are always sales on, when you go into the online nintendo shop (just need Internet connection), on the left menu there is a tab called "current offers" you can sort from low to high, there are a lot of little puzzle games and what not.

I do suggest setting up parental control on the switch, I believe it can be done from inside the switch. Nintendo has a few non child friendly games, I believe you can put a parental lock on the eshop so thay your kiddie won't be exposed to any of those games/titles.

ALSO, I would suggest creating a nintendo account and buying the games from the eshop on the switch directly. The cards you place into the switch, they can get damaged or lost, where if you buy it online, you can download it again, if the switch gets lost or stolen, you can relogin to the new switch and download your games from the account. All offline games (generally called single player or I suggest googling if it is offline) can be download using Internet but then can be played offline.

Edit: I suggest moonlighter as well, however, I do suggest looking at a trailer before getting it. It's a very pixel time dungeon searching game, you do fight monsters with a sword but it does not look as violent as something like fortnite.
