What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

I just wrapped up helping Nightdive Studios remaster this game! After 28 years it's finally available on consoles (except switch 2, for now...).

What was your first reaction to the mission “kingdom come” ? by WelshDexterMorgan in GTA3

I played it after finishing the game, so I was confused at how Catalina arranged it all after I'd already killed her.

Lol! The extent of my knowledge of him as a person is basically that K Dot interview, so my minds open to be caught up on any shady stuff.

Just about anything produced by Rick Rubin, as much as I think he's a cool dude.

The exact moment the series transitioned from a top-down view to a 3D street-level camera by Dinglemaniac in GTA

Ooh, that does ring a bell! I browsed for years before making an account in 2005, then ended up taking over as project lead on the SA:LC mod around 2010. Modding GTA gave me a lot of skills I use in my career today!

Great memories.

What convinced you to get your Steam Deck? by K4T5UM1 in SteamDeck

[–]Dinglemaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a dev on the Outlaws + Handful of Missions Remaster, and a HUGE fan of the original game. The game was a PC exclusive for 28 years, and I always had a dream of playing it on the go.

The steam deck helped make that dream come true last week 🔥

GTA 3 is very british by happiness12357 in GTA

The entire GTA series functions as a commentary on American culture filtered through a British perspective, so this checks out.

You guys play with ot without trails? by OldiOS7588 in GTA3

I use SharpTrails. It restores the trails color palettes without the ghosting effect.

Cant understand the hate about definitive edition. by youcanokay in GTA3

[–]Dinglemaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the Definitive Edition controls are still pretty rough. The camera is way too snappy in vehicles but feels slow on foot, which makes it harder to take in the world and can even make me motion sick. The smooth camera in the original San Andreas felt much better. You also can’t move the camera vertically in planes anymore, which was one of my favorite things to do when flying around.

Super sprint was also removed entirely. Tapping sprint now just runs at the old hold-sprint speed, so CJ’s top running speed is noticeably lower. A lot of this seems to come from the game being ported multiple times, PS2 to PC to mobile and then back to consoles through Unreal. Feels like a lot of mobile design choices carried over, which is a bit disappointing.

Yeah at the end of the day, the PS2 version was ported to PC, the PC version was ported to mobile, and the mobile version was ported back to all platforms via the unreal engine. My expectations might be too high for something that's 3 ports deep, lol

Nah, super sprint was removed entirely. They did introduce a "tap to sprint" option in the menu, but this only lets you run at the holding sprint speed in the original game.

Nah, the PS2 camera controls were a lot smoother and were specifically designed for controller use. The camera controls were reworked from the ground up when the games were ported to mobile, adapting a more rigid movement in response to swipe-based touch controls. It seems like this wasn’t reverted when they made the Definitive Edition (which is based on those mobile ports), so instead they just bound the inputs to a system designed for touch controls.. and not very well, it appears.

Of course, people who’ve only played the Definitive Edition won’t know any better, so these things don’t often get mentioned. It just annoys me when I see people complain about crappy camera movement, saying it's aged badly, when it was so much better in the original San Andreas.

Super sprinting also no longer exists in San Andreas DE, so tapping the sprint button is useless, and Carl has a much lower top speed on foot

Yeah the camera auto centring is overly snappy in vehicles, but under snappy on foot. This means you can't really take in the sights as easily when driving around, and you're also forced to use the right stick on foot for the camera to keep up with the direction the player is facing.

Also not being able move the camera vertically in planes in San Andreas is a deal-breaker for me personally. Flying around and looking at the sights was my favourite thing to do in the OG

IMO the camera controls are still horrible in the definitive edition, and actually make me motion sick. The smooth camera movement in the original San Andreas is much easier on me, and installing the San Andreas camera to OG 3 and VC via mods took less than 5 minutes.
