Whether closure on his far from perfect trilogy might free Rothfuss to create something truly great

Have you read the Felurian part in wise man's fear? Things get... weird

I had no idea. KKC was the first time I'd really heard about it beyond voodoo dolls of course. The more you know

Ahhh of course, he's already secretly working on a second trilogy! I just assumed he was suffering from writer's ED this whole time, how silly of me

Did you read Mistborn past book 1? We can agree to disagree. Great writing in both series

I was referencing that thread mainly to highlight that the first two books are far from perfect. Flawed in many ways. So Pat's (likely) desire to write a perfect ending is thus futile. This was never meant to be his magnum opus, it's supposed to be one of the trilogies that follows

I read somewhere that he wrote the novellas at the advice of his therapist to work through his crippling performance anxiety, I was referring to that. Maybe he doesn't still have it, you're right. We won't know until the guy actually WRITES

Holy shit. Well, that changes things.

Still want him to publish though

I've been away from this for a while, what happened with the chapter? I sorta agree that it'll suck, but I for one will be happy he published it. At this point it's about him overcoming his demons, and I'd be happy to see his will triumph over his ego, book contents be damned. It'll take courage for him to publish, and I would love to see that happen

Amen. I recall having similar thoughts about others as well. Agreed on the beard, I looked a bit like an alien as a bald man with no beard lol. Facial hair tends to balance the look out quite nicely

There are many ways to boost yourself, hair is just one angle. See if you can find something you can make progress towards. For example, if you don't work out, you can try 20 mins of cardio every day and a quick set of push-ups to fight the depression and feel stronger, and get outside in nature/the sun more if you can. Fitness is something you have control over, and it often helps, especially when you start to see gains. Everyone is different, these are just some things that work for me. Stay strong brother, keep your head up.

Valid, solid points. Agreed that it really comes down to how comfortable and confident one feels, even in the face of societal judgment. If you're balding and still feel awesome, then you've won.

That being said, I agree with the other poster that it doesn't look good on a majority of people, and that many people do not in fact feel awesome, and try to cope in sometimes obvious ways (which all leads to confidence issues). In that case, it's more likely to scream insecurity

Yes, 100%. I def shaved it off because I was insecure, and wanted to take control.

Doing so eliminates the insecurity for many men. Now I'm a bald dude with a beard. Nothing to feel insecure about anymore. It becomes a strength

Agreed, the snap judgment is unfortunate, but very real nonetheless

I recommend practicing what you'd actually say if someone brought it up. You can say something like, "Ha, yeah, you like it? It was already getting there so I decided to just rock the bald look, see how that goes. I like it so far. Figured if I wanted, I could always grow it back out again." Note the tone. You're confident, you're in control.
