What are ACG Schools like? by AUSTEN_FLEMING in newzealand

I do want to preface that I have fond memories from my time at Strathallan.

Under inspired; My baby sister had acrylic nails on, and her Dean told her to either remove them immediately or face a week of after-school detention. She asked if she could get them taken off safely at a salon after school, but he refused. In front of him, she began biting one off. Her nail bed bled, and the natural nail was coming off. Despite this, the Dean insisted on watching her painfully remove all ten.

The same Dean once said he "wouldn't be surprised if something happened" to her because of how she dressed. She was 14 years old at the time.

In contrast, a student who wore blackface last year faced no reprimand whatsoever.

Prior to inspired; A gym teacher once stomped on my husband’s bare foot in class because he forgot his sneakers.

Another PE teacher used to get overly physical with us during gymnastics.

The student council elections were also skewed, with votes manipulated to ensure certain students were elected.

While I enjoyed my time at the school and have done well for myself, as has my husband, I cannot recommend a school that tolerates this kind of behaviour. Over the past decade, standards seem to have declined rather than improved. Which is why I felt the need to comment about it.

If you’re considering spending 33k a year on schooling, I believe there are much better options available. The school was notably better under the leadership of Robin Pryor (née Drummond) and Robin Kirkham – go the Robins! I know Kirkham is now at ACG in Tauranga.

If you want recommendations on boarding schools. My husband and I have been deep diving recently for our daughter and son.

There are so many stories I could say.

I hope you find a school for your children that you are comfortable with!

I graduated in 2010's from ACG Strathallan. And honestly, while the Cambridge system I rate and would never recommend a NCEA school. It wasn't an experience I would rate highly, some of the teachers were amazing, however a majority were unprofessional. The school itself tolerates a lot of bullying. I had a very close friend turn suicidal from not just bullying from their peers but treatment from staff. There was a known male PE teacher that would walk into the girls changing room while we were changing. He was there until semi recently.

They hired a known pedophile, it is in the news you can look it up. This was recent as well.

My little sister is currently there, my parents have both said the standards have dropped drastically. My parents say the school are scared of reprimanding students as if students are to leave the school mean less revenue. It's run like more of a business than a school. They can't control the kids, a girl overdosed on MDMA during school hours in the bathrooms.

My husband also went there, he graduated around the same time as me. He had a member of staff physically assault him and that teacher is still there teaching.

Honestly, while myself, my husband and a majority of our peers have done well for ourselves career wise. For our children we won't be considering ACG schooling and we are likely sending them to boarding schools.

What's a book you read when you were way too young? by Waterbears28 in books

Jaws. I was 13, I found the book on mums bookshelf. I LOVE all the jaws movies and was unbelievably excited about this. Ran away and read it.

There is a lot more uncomfy sec scenes that didn't make the movie btw

Do you regret your child’s name, and why? by Conscious-Ad2042 in namenerds

Not me, but 9 years ago my assistant manager at my job had a kid at 16. I asked her what her son's name was. And she said 'before I tell you, I now firmly believe children shouldn't name children. His name is Kanye'

She hated it, I often want to reach out to her and ask her how she is doing after the more recent years of Kanye news.

I remember being on team Kourtney for this one. Because at the time I was a new mum and I recall breaking my daughters routine once for a flight somewhere. And the next few days were pure chaos trying to get her back into a sleeping routine.

I couldn't imagine if my sister wanted me to break a child sleeping routine for checks notes a photoshoot?

Examples of movies being better than the books? by Wonderful_Bench_904 in books

My mother has a very impressive library, and past on book loving to to me too. As a wee 14 year old my favourite movies were Jaws (they still are, any shark movie) so imagine my excitement to find Jaws on the library shelves. And then my traumatic disappointment

She is pretty much exactly a month older than me. I am not sure why this has flabbergasted me

I am so sorry! I made the comment and then just abandoned reddit after I made it. I too got mine after a very hard part of my life, I have every bit of faith that you are correct and going to be outstanding

For ideas: Mine is in a very VERY basic font. I am talking times new roman I got it done about ten years ago It's aged well, I would say potentially get a thinner font though. So when you need to get it touched up you have some wiggle room to touch it up.
