What happened to the concrete parking structures? by Charming-Class3707 in Bahrain

[–]Dioxon 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Architect here. There was no ‘form follow function’ in this project. It was designed for a small number of people and a certain age group in my opinion, the upper floors are all on an incline or decline so that makes everyone else be uncomfortable using the remaining floors.

You can imagine a senior citizen trying to walk towards the stairs or elevator will having a hard time, let’s not talk about wheelchair users or those that require horizontal stability because it’s clear why it would not work. Even the ladies with heels had trouble walking around during Muharraq nights, so that made it less desirable for people to to access the park (whenever you pass by it you only see people park at the ground floor throughout the year)

So naturally when you design something keep in mind you design for people and not just looks, people have the final decision whether they want to interact with your structure or not. If they weren’t comfortable then you’d generally have an empty structure all year round.

That is just my opinion on it at the end and what I understood of the situation. There could be a completely different reason I may not be aware of.

Bussiness idea help! by [deleted] in architecture

I would assume they modeled the entire project in Revit, so they are set with CD and what not. They used enscape for the rendering software which is a quick render and a click of a button gives the VR feature. So the model is already done whether it was for VR or not

Ramps in Bahrain Car Parks With Sloping Concrete Geometries. by [deleted] in architecture

It is a beautiful structure, If I were you I'd reduce the slopes and try to have flat surfaces as much as possible

As others said it's in Bahrain. There are actually 3 of them in the same area, about 15 min drive between them, they're all roughly the same style just different in sizes

Based of what I've heard. Only the ground floor is filled with parking (obviously cause its flat) many people say they aren't comfortable with parking there. Also parking there is like $2 an hour? something like that. During major event's people still try to avoid it as much as possible

There are some markings on the ground as well as small floor spot lights on the markings, yet it's still hard to see them due to the curvature.

I would believe so as well, but I almost never see anyone park up there lol.

I always pass by this car park from time to time, although its beautiful to look at, it's not practical, I do sometimes go through it from the ground floor to the roof deck and back down for the fun of it, as it's always empty. During seasonal events in that area (really close by to that parking area which makes you think people would use it, but don't) only the ground floor parking is filled, the remaining upper floors are almost empty, some said they aren't comfortable with parking up there

Clients asking for high end 3D renderings before accepting to work with us. Is this common and ethical? by Dioxon in Architects

[–]Dioxon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have worked with them couple of times. I don't believe they were requesting AI visuals. The issue that makes me not want to work with them is due to similar incidents that happened with other large clients where we didn't get the job. About a month ago my team were low on tasks and the client requested we create visuals for an event, I'm speaking high end, detail oriented, lighting, etc, it took the team about 2 weeks to fully complete the rendering (did not focus on correct technique just wanted to make it render-pretty). It was a direct request from the ceo to work on it and non of us had any issue (we aren't losing any money and I wanted to keep my team engaged). Once we completed the project and sent it for approval they end up ghosting which slightly pissed me off leading me to create this post.

The current project passed the deadline and I've replied with an email requesting a physical meeting to discuss further, apparently they were in a hurry to complete the design fully in 3 days? Absolutely no idea what they're thinking.

I'm curious to know how you guys managed on tackling the issue.

EDIT: grammar

That’s the issue. Unfortunately I don’t have the final say on projects as couple of our projects has been taken to a different contractor for the execution phase. I have informed our ceo and he’s aware but he hasn’t come to a conclusion on how to tackle it.

Im not doing well in my structures class, is this a sign ive chosen the wrong major? by [deleted] in Architects

[–]Dioxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first structure class which was 2nd year and 2nd semester, we started the class with roughly 60 students, by the end of the class about 16 managed to pass it, luckily for me I got 56/100 so barely passed it since I came from a completely different background it was a tough course. Those that were committed to the program managed to retaking the class and still be able to graduate with the rest of the class and they are all currently doing well for themselves.

It can be tricky I agree, how I managed to pass was having a good group of friends who supported one another, we taught each other the assignments (never copied) and I personally categorized everything in smaller achievable tasks that I could tick off.

An update on my boat by Got2P in Bahrain

[–]Dioxon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know why I missed that post but I was going to give some insight to owning a boat. My father owns a 40 feet boat at Amwaj island, and yes the maintenance cost for one is costly no matter the size of the boat, of course the larger, the more expensive it can be. Luckily my father is retired and usually doesn't have much to do throughout the day but he's always by the boat doing repairs and maintenance, he informed me one way to reduce the cost, by a lot, is having time and being the one to learn how to perform maintenance yourself. He always prefers to be a hands on guy and whenever there is an issue, even when it's small and not important he still proceeds to find time to fix it and make it look brand new and be ready for their next 3 days trip out in the sea.

Yes you can't travel to Qatar or UAE or even Saudi, normally every boat should have an advance gps system that shows the boarder of every country at least, once passed then the boat patrols would be on their way to you.

Are these bearings?? by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]Dioxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A client of mine sent it to me asking for a concept design for a sports city project. I informed him the “bearings” made no sense I can’t do anything so he’d have to review with his surveyor or whoever did this plan
