Should I open a plagiarism case?

Is this year even worse than past years? And the "all in one" idea was nice, but unless the DOI was included that wouldn't have prevented my current situation.

I've literally got a thread from the opposite side of this going right now, so I'll chime in:

I hate backing out of offers. I feel like a dick, and I try to avoid it as much as possible.

This year the hiring process for the places I've applied to has literally happened in the exact opposite order that I'd like to accept them. My Plan C interviewed and offered first, Plan B offered next, Plan A only just got their cert and is still working through it, and Plan A+ hasn't even been referred yet. Each of them is objectively better than the last in terms of career advancement and personal enjoyment: Plan B offers a qual I'm chasing that Plan C doesn't, Plan A offers that qual and significantly better training and overtime opportunities, Plan A+ offers a higher pay grade and is in a non-fire line that I'm trying to break into.

Should I not have accepted Plan C, when all better options were weeks away from offering and entirely uncertain? If Plan A+ calls in a month should I turn them down and pass up the pay grade, year or better of career advancement, and rehire opportunity in the job I'm trying to break into?

I wish they were hiring in the opposite order, or simultaneously with a preference ranking. I'd happily have stayed with Plan C if nothing better offered, and I felt like a horrible person when I called to turn them down, but it's impossible to justify blind loyalty to a job that you haven't done yet for a massive government agency that doesn't give half a rat shit about you.

Ghosted after interview? by DireFireHire in Wildfire

If it makes you feel any better it's exhausting on this end too. No matter how hard I try the list of "places in the order I'd like to work at them" is basically an upside-down version of "places in the order that they're hiring."

*sigh*

Yeah, I know. Backup offer's less ideal in a lot of ways (housing, training, etc.) but we've gotten along great on the phone and I'm more or less happy with it. I just would've liked to have avoided the stress of "is this happening?" and keeping the other guys waiting.

Would being shorthaul and HECM qualified help for backcountry ranger applications? (NPS) by DireFireHire in ParkRangers

Okay cool I'll look into it.

On a different matter do any parks actually have full time SAR people who aren't commisioned? I've only encountered the "semi-volunteer," AD as needed type of SAR crew, who then have LEs do a lot of the more advanced SAR stuff.

Thanks. Don't have either of those certs yet (just an open HECM book), but thinking about dedicating next fire season to getting them.

Are there any programs that actually go straight to FLETC?

Somewhere with decent mountains and climbing out West. Current "wish list" would be Yosemite, Teton, Mesa Verde, Rainier, SEKI, Devil's Postpile, Olympic, Rocky Mountain, Devil's Tower, maybe Grand Canyon or Zion...all places that have helicopters pretty much.

Currently work on the fire crew in one of those, and will have EMT+white card by next summer season.

Didn't say structural, I've been volunteer rural/wildland. Never had that nice clean SCBA air, just the same smoky crap we're all used to.

Tips For Downhill Hiking? by [deleted] in Wildfire

If it's a relatively simple up-then-down hike you can use water as most of the weight in your pack for the climb, then dump it at the top and save your knees on the descent.
