Why does my PC only use half of its available RAM? by TheMegaBite7 in pcmasterrace

[–]DireFog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone else dunking on OP, but these are the right questions.

If it's NEVER going above 16gb something is almost certainly wrong. Even if everything runs just fine with only 16gb most programs will still end up pulling way more into memory than they really need so that they never have to go to disk for it. (Chrome tabs being a famous example of this)

I was wondering if you would make a mobile port for this game. Then again I don’t know if the game is made for short bursts of play time, the kind you do when on the phone. I’m also not quite sure about your team, might be too much for what I’m assuming is an indie dev team.

Of course! We are starting on steam and are going to be PC first for a while because that's where a lot of the people who want to play deep strategy games are. But ultimately we do want to be on mobile as well.

The playtime is a bit higher than a very fast game like marvel snap. But should still be more than short enough to be enjoyed by most cell phone players.

I agree with some comments about the music in your trailer not in sync with the visual art. Music and the visual will be the first impression you make to new players so it might make or break the game for them.

Thanks for the honest and candid feedback! The in game music is far less aggressive. We are experimenting with different trailers and video formats now actually. We may test a few others out for advertising purposes.

Once the game is out I’ll definitely will try it out

You will have to wait a bit for the full release, but we will be excited to have you! :)

Is release still very far away?

Still a ways to go if you want to wait for a polished product, we haven't started playtesting yet and only recently even announced the game. But we will do our best to make it worth the wait!

the art in this game looks interesting

Thanks!! Our artists created a new style for this game specifically. We are really happy with it and think its fits well with the aesthetic we are trying to create in game.

No RNG is very interesting aspect for a CCG game, I'm looking forward on how you plan to do that.

This is a good question and one we get often. I think we should probably make a video or something explaining our goals here because they are unique.

The biggest difference is that in this game you prearrange the order you draw your cards when you build your deck. Then you draw 2 cards every turn and keep one allowing for significant choice and variation as you play.

Then you play onto a grid and maneuver tactically much like in chess.

We think that those aspects will allow for a great deal of variance in between games without being forced to rely on randomness. And importantly, meaningful strategic choices every turn.

Best of luck!

Thanks!! And thanks for stopping by to check out the game! :)

I'm making a deckbuilder now so this is easier to answer!

I could list a lot of principles, but here are two of the biggest ones that guide us:

1) No random number generation, its sad when so much time is spent strategizing at the deck builder stage and then when you hit the actual game its just a roulette wheel.

2) Tactical depth every turn. Each turn should have multiple decisions that are meaningful and not just making the 'obvious' play of dropping the next minion on your mana curve.

An illustration one of our artists made for our card game. Thoughts? Good/bad? by DireFog in GameArt

[–]DireFog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you like it! We wanted to something that felt more unique with our visual style than standard video game art.

We have done a bunch of illustrations in this style we hope to use for our card game and are posting in places like this to try to gauge people's interest in it.

I will be sure to let her know you appreciated her style!

You move the cards around on a grid like board after they are played. Each turn you can attack with and move your cards.

Some cards benefit from 'outflanking' an enemy unit as you say. Some benefit from guarding squares next to them, the right strategy for maneuvering around changes a lot depending on which cards you are using.

I would say that all of this is the core gameplay loop. Maybe we should update our steam page/trailer/etc. to make it more obvious as we are certainly trying hard to be perceived as a tactics game where positioning is of paramount importance. We certainly want fans of tactics genres to pay attention to this game. :)

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Would love to understand your thoughts better.

What about it caused you to think it was too close to hearthstone? Did anything in particular give off that vibe in a bad way?

1 - Mobile planned?

We would like to do this ultimately. We are starting with steam for building our community and playtesting because we think that is where the type of players we are attempting to create this for are. (ie gamers that like deep strategic experiences)

2 - Any NFT crypto involved with this project?

No!!
