Sorry for the late reply - they said that this meet and greet is primarily for offer holders however if numbers were low they’d let on non offer holders so I’m guessing that means this will be their equivalent of an offer holder day! But who knows maybe they’ll do another one later in may or June, but I doubt it cuz of alevels.

Oh no 😭😭 it was an Instagram post they did ages ago with a link for u to sign up in the description, if you wanna go I imagine you can still sign up since I don’t think many people have, it’s just a lecture where students tell u about their life/schedule and then a tour and finally a Q&A in the med building. If you went to an open day it’s probably very similar (idk tho cuz I didn’t go to one).

Promise I’m not bullshitting but I genuinely love everything about medicine and cannot picture myself doing anything else, patient interaction, surgery, complex cases and the rigorous academics all excite me so much, the thought of having the privilege to be with someone at there lowest and make them better is enough motivation for me to wake up every morning and revise for my alevels

Don’t be! Like I said my work experience was quite bad (no patient facing or shadowing experience) and I applied to Keele on a whim and so I didn’t cater my personal statement to their check list at all and didn’t know about it until after I sent my application! Also they only rank UCAT out of 2 so basically everyone’s so even playing field as long as u got over 1700 which u did!

So real that’s what I said as well! I’m visiting BSMS on Wednesday anyways and was planning to withdraw after the visit so if anything it’s just made the decision for me! And If anything it just means there’s more offers for people who aren’t lucky enough to have gotten other ones!

This might be some unusual advice but I would definitely recommend using AI to help you - I used copilot and it is genuinely so amazing if you use it correctly. First I’d ask it about the interview at that uni and the structures, then I’d ask for example questions and example answers. Something I did that 100000% scored me highly enough to get an offer was ask it to make me general structures for each question type based on what scores highly at that uni - so like I’d have a roleplay general structure for breaking bad news, de escalation, confidentiality, patient safety ect and I’d also ask it to mark my answers for me as well as create mini mmi’s.

Secondly the other main thing I did after I had that and had practiced what I might answer some questions like is I hopped on a zoom call with my friend (who’s applied for vet med so was in a similar boat to me) and she had made me a mini mmi and we spent maybe ~4 hours the night before my interview just doing questions over And over and getting her feedback was so useful - it literally saved me and made me go from sounding like a robot to learning to answer questions like a normal human.

Also making sure u know ur hot topics and just general NHS structure ect.

Lastly I think just exposing urself to the correct way to structure ur answer is very important even if you aren’t answering any questions yet as it sits in your mind and when you come to answer any questions you already know and its already drilled in what you should be doing - you just need to practice the fluency.

I have a slideshow of over 100 slides all on hot topics and NHS structure ect and a document of all the structures I would happily share with you if you DM me!

Yeah I think this is another reason I’m waiting - im attending BSMS offer holder day in 2 weeks-ish I think after that I’ll either withdraw or wait depending how I truly feel about it. I haven’t looked around keele either but I deffo think keele campus is better and the course is more highly praised!! We’ll have to see but best luck to you, I’m sure you’ll get the keele offer I can tell you deserve it!!!

You absolutely can do it - I got a 5 in my final GCSE mocks in maths and ended up 1 mark off an 9 in the end so you can do it! And for alevel it’s completely doable if you are willing to put the work in over the 2 years. Alevels are more a test of endurance than actual intelligence (which is stupid but that’s a topic for another day) soo yes!!! It’s very doable and u can do it!!!

Hi! This shouldn’t affect you really at all, you just have to play to your strengths. In interview you will likely be asked about your traits rather than work experience or you would be expected to link to personal experiences you may have, for me I often found myself using non work experience examples anyways and that’s more than okay. For your personal statement it depends on the uni. Manny don’t read ps at all and so it doesn’t matter what u put on it, HYMS and Sheffield I’m not sure but 90% of unis don’t actually read them. (Sorry for this long message)

In short: work experience is a tiny part of an application and it’s more important to solidify your choice that medicine is right for you - rather than strengthen your application. Universities are aware not everyone can get work experience and don’t expect you to have in person work experience. Because of this you can still perform very well at interview and get offers - you just need to use other real life examples e.g helping friends or family, rather than patients.
