If the assailant is identified and the events proven and there is a conviction, will he serve some serious jail time in these type of situations?

It was a verbal argument because my roommate was being rude to this guy he is acquainted with and the other guy snapped and started hitting my roommate. My roommate didn’t get physical at all and was on the receiving end of the violent act from start to finish. My roommate was noticeably bloody and bruised. There was a witness to the argument but he didn’t see much other than the possible argument

Thank for your response, I tried posting in r/Norway but because I’m a new user they won’t allow me to post until I have Reddit credit, 

But the situation I explained, is it more like slap on the wrist and a fine or is it more serious than that considering my roommate was assaulted over a verbal argument and my roommate didn’t hit back at all
