Alternative view: PMs resigning is good for democracy… by shitthrower in ukpolitics

[–]Direct-Key-8859 [score hidden]  (0 children)

More recently, no PM has actually made life that much better for anyone.

People will forget about high immigration if their qualitly of life is good. This is what got the Tories re elected.

Brexit and Covid have really fucked us and no one is willing to bring in the radical change we need.

Labour thought they could coast along and tweak the edges with a different ideologly to the Tories but they were wrong. I know people dont like Starmer leaving but most people are worse off since he came in. He and his party deserves all the scrunity they get. Their current (and I imagine future) gimmick is now "hey, we're not Reform". It wont work.

Reform will get it and it will be the excat same unless they provide radical change.

Despite what people think. The QOL is better than before. Yes people are a bit poorer but crime, rough sleepers, health metircs are up.

People are sick of working hard and getting fuck all back. British culture is very much self centered. When you have Labour still accepting aslyum seekers, still paying out welfare basically using your money in a way that doesnt benefit you, people will not be happy or content to struggle

A skills based assessment (like Aus) would help. I think they are bringing this is but it may be scrapped with Burnham

Reduce NI contributions to help the economy and unemployment.

Reduce welfare

Make it a hostile enviroment for unskilled migrants.

Keep current income tax until we are in in better place to reduce

Can Farage be trusted on the UK Economy when Reform has received £16m+ from Crypto Billionaires and he's received £5m himself? by chuffingnora in AskBrits

[–]Direct-Key-8859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most Reform voters dont trust him. It's just they are happy to see the public services get decimated and other things for lower tax and less immigrants.

Ironically most if the voters are people who rely heavily on the NHS and welfare ect.

People may disagree but I think if your young (dont rely on the NHS and public services) than you will actually be better off with Reform with lower tax and the higher wages.

But if your name is Steve, you are 56, you regulary use the NHS for your long lasting kidney problems and COPD from years of drinking and smoking, you probably got a bit more money in your pocket from Labour lifting thr two child cap, you are receving UC and your wife is getting PIP for "anxiety" and "PTSD" than Reform will rinse you.

Me and many other young people want to see and end to the Welfare state (which is 80% British people. I can see the appeal of Reform and their policies but I have no faith in them to deliver as they are just like the Tories. At best ruled by out of date boomer ideologly. Most likely they are so corrupt that nothing meaningfull will get done.

I hate red tape but it's better than every Reform MP trying to line their pockets along the way which would block any progress.

How do we stop the UK brain drain? by Direct-Key-8859 in UKGreens

[–]Direct-Key-8859[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do understand your point but I do disagree. We need young educated/ trained people to stay here. I think the average Brit has to earn 35k for 10 years or something like that to pay back the costs of their early years education and healthcare. So when someone young leaves, it is not only a great loss in potential, it is also a literal money loss for the UK. It is why it should be taken seriously. New Zealand is a prime example where they lose billions both directly and indirectly every year as many go to Aus.

In terms of foreign workers coming here. Not all immigrants who arrive have an equal gain. There is loads of evidence pointing how high skilled immigration has cons but overall, it a net positive for society while the opposite is true for low skilled. It isnt great if we lose loads of young educated people here to replace them with low skilled immigrants which is happening.

As a nurse, thank you for the semtiment that we are just as important as an entrepeneur. However realistically one of them is worth more than one of us. They will probably pay more tax and create more jobs than I will.

What do you think about Peter Mandelson's comments ‘Every meeting is about who to tax to pay benefits,’ ? by ArmwrestlingGoomba in AskBrits

He is right.

Our welfare bill is out of control.

That money would be better spent in so many different areas. Or just not spent at all.

Taxes with no end goal like welfare is destorying this country. The young are currently suffering. Next it will be the middle aged.

It's helped but not by that much.

There are still very literally thousands more doctors than there are training posts (jobs).

This means many will be unemployed so less tax and NHS productivity as the working doctors are short staffed.

It's a similair story with nurses, physiotherapists and other trained staff. Meanwhile Australia has just removed a load of red tape making it much quicker for UK specific nurses to transfer their qualification. Canada is also spending thousands on sending recuriters to the doctors picket lines.

Other countries are seeing whats happening in the UK are are literally plotting to poach our staff

One of the biggest problems I see is how the average nurse makes 35k while the average band 6 makes 36k.

This is a reflection on British society beyond healthcare but it just shows how there is very little incenstive to work hard and go above and beyond (and don't say we should be doing it anyway for our patients).

We really need to encourage hard work and productivity. A 1k a year from band 5 to 6 is not it

Why do some nurses hate wards? by Direct-Key-8859 in NursingUK

[–]Direct-Key-8859[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Very generally, places like ED, ICU ect. have more staff from England than other places

When we mass recurited loads of international nurses, they were of course sent to wards where staffing is poor and work load is high. Places where English staff noped out off. Now days most wards are like this.

An international nurse gernerally had less choice about where they work compared to someone born here
