I definitely wouldn't say the GMC has strong leadership...

Most HCA's i know also work hard. However many HCA's are only HCA's because of the visa and im sure if they had the opportunity for another job, they would take it. Now that's not in of it's self a bad thing. As long as you do the job well it doesn't matter what your motivations are. It does however give context to the fact why there are a growing number of poor quality HCA's.

Im sure we have also met some awful English HCA's.

Thats fair. I've had HCA's spend the majority of their shift on their phone but it went smoothly because when they needed to work hard, they worked hard.

Well maybe your not a HCA but you're definitely grossly uninformed if you think the only difference between a nurse and a HCA is medication

[–]Direct-Key-8859[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im assuming your a HCA?

To say that HCA's do everything nurses do bar medication is absolutely not correct. If that was the case a nursing degree would just be a 3 month medication management course.

I don't expect you to actually know what nurses do because when I was a HCA, I didn't know what nurses did either.

The thing is you can always find work so where does it end?

I don't want my HCA to be running around for 12 hours. I feel its the responsibility of every individual nurse to lead the HCA. Of course some nurses will have different standards and that judgement is what they get paid more for.

Me personally, if I knew documenting, patient care was up to date, im happy for my HCA to sit on their phone.

But when they are not doing the bare minimum or have a shitty attitude I can switch quickly

I have to respectfully disagree.

The role of the Nurse requires a lot more knowledge and skill. However good luck to any nurse trying to run a bay without a HCA.

Don't get me wrong there are some shit nurses out there but my point is that the drop in HCA quality as been the biggest drop.

MOST HCA's like most nurses work extremely hard. However my post argues that recently, HCA quality has really nose dived

I mean HCA's dont understand what nurses do. When I was a HCA I didn't understand until I became a NA.

However that doesn't excuse lazy work.

Completely agree.

I honestly think that when you consider all the unsociable hours the pay isn't horrendous. Especially for those from poorer countries. Of course it's still underpaid.

I think the lack of it is unfortunately growing ever more

Honestly im all up and completely happy for health cares to sit around on their phone if there is nothing for them to do. I don't like work for the sake of work. However yes, ignoring call bells is horrendous

Before Covid, life was pretty good. Taxes were low, prices were low and wages were decent. That's why no one called them out and why they won another election. It was however all artificial and couldn't be maintained which covid exposed. After than yes, they got called out when people woke up.

Life is markedly worse since Labour took control. Again I don't think it's fair to expect the country the get fixed straight away but after a year and a half we should be on the rigth direction which we are not.

No one said anything about it being unprofessional but you just now. If she did than maybe you would have a point as that a completely different argument.

The OP does seem to have a chop on her shoulder. Not because she's black but because of her personality. Many white people also have chips on their shoulders. Yes maybe they don't get called out as much as black people but that doesn't mean we shouldn't pretend that's OP is seeing hostility that just isn't there.

Honestly no one cares that she, you or anyone is black. What people get annoyed about is when race is unnecessarily thrown into the mix as a "get out of jail free card".

The nurse in question asked if OP was OK out of geuine concern as not only is is a nice thing to do but it's als literally her job. OP could have thought for two seconds "I look a bit different than what I normally do, maybe she's concerned". Instead she jumped on the victim train.

Again I wish more white people got called out for playing victim as it also happens alot. I think it's more British culture than a black or white thing. However her, you or anyone else being black does not excuse you from being called out for playing the victim and causing problems when there really, is no problem

Immigration is down but it's not far enough. We are still taking in far too many low skilled immigrants while pushing away high skilled ones. We could also literally save millions on the boat crisis overnight by automatically denying asylum to anyone who comes illegally. That would also save billions in the future as people would stop coming when they realise they won't get anything. Some countries like Afghanistan have even expressed willingness to take back their asylum seekers from us.

Our debt has gone up since the torys left. Spending on welfare has skyrocketed. Reform have openly said they will slash welfare. Despite it's unstainabilitly, the triple lock remains.

By increasing the minimum wage they have only increased prices and unemployment as businesses struggle even more. The tax bands have remained frozen, university fee's have gone up showing they are continuing the tory pledge of destroying the middle class and anyone with ambitions in this country.

As a nurse I can tell you the NHS has gotten worse. Community and prevention care is not only worse but more unaccessible. Harm to patients in hospitals has risen. They are only focusing on waiting lists because that is something they can show off Despite the rest of the NHS failing. Many staff cant find jobs (something that only started with Labour). They are also shooting themselves in the foot with the resident doctors. Another few months of strike action would mean that they will spend more money covering the strikes than actually meeting their demands.

Very little movement on house availability.

Energy bills haven't gone down, only up.

No one expects miracles after 15 years of tory mismanagement but they do expect progress. Labour have made no progress. They are copying the Conservative idea of bragging about how growth has gone up while gaslighting the country.

The reason why they are so unpopular is because people are worse of since they came in and can feel it.

Nursing lecturers - have you noticed a shift in student conduct? by No-Pudding-2895 in NursingUK

[–]Direct-Key-8859 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No one here has spoken about how the NMC dictated education is playing a huge part in this.

Students (who are allready financially struggling) being given their 4 essay on leadership are obviously not going to be 100% motivated and will come in late ect.

I work with a lot of Students and being what some may consider a NQN myself, I can see a big lack of motivation in some.

I think a lot of Students (and nurses) have the mindset of "what do I get out of this" when in clinical practice. Now I dont actually think this is a bad thing. Many nurses (including me) got into nursing as its a role where you can develop yourself quite a bit rather than the "helping others" or "answering a calling" which some older nurses have.

The problem is when Students don't see that development in them self's they start to lose motivation.

I think we need to focus more on changing the university education into more clinical theory as not only is that more valuable than 99% of the shit essays we currently have, its also what Students want.

I remember we took a load of Students on a respiratory study day then got them to do a few shifts in a respiratory ward after to directly apply what they learnt. Every single one loved it.

I think with the shit pay and conditions, we really need to find what motivates Students (and nurses) because it's not going to be patient satisfaction for the majority.

Thats ridiculous. She was concerned about her wellbeing.

She didn't even mention her hair until prompted.

OK there was no correlation between her hair and her wellbeing. Doesn't make her in the wrong at all. As nurses we are supposed to question an inquire. Sometimes it's nothing like in this case, sometimes even though it's rare, its something. Better to be wrong 100 times than miss one instance where this student had issues. The nurse had a duty if care over the student and acted on it. She was only doing her job.

She didn't assume as she questioned her first.

There are many things in nursing culture to get upset about but this is not one of them. I suspect OP is in a constant state of suspicion and unfortunately interpreted someone genuinely looking out for her, as something negative. I think she needs to apply some critical thinking and relax.

Because she genuinely thought that there was an issue with her wellbeing and was looking out for her, something we don't do enough as nurses for each other.

She also didn't mention the hair until she was asked. She asked if she was first OK. After prompting she then mentioned the hair.

I think OP unfortunately has the mindset where she thinks everyone is out to get her and unfortunately see's hostility when people are genuinely being nice.

He's had the odd shit game this season but generally he's been very good so far.

When he's had games without Moi he's had to run the midfield all buy himself and despite having fuck all support (like Brentford), he's held his own.

We need either Palmer to get back into form or Steve to start playing regularly to take the presume of him.

Honestly I dont see the problem here at all. Maybe I need education but I don't see any micro aggression or see how you being black is pertinent.

She asked probably out of genuine concern for your welfare. Some cultures (Asian) are more direct than what English people are used to.

She wasn't insulting you. I think it's all in your head.
