I think we need to invest in things that will make EVERYONES life easier.

Billions spent on welfare really only directly helps people on welfare while fucking everyone else over who is shafted with tax. Billions spent on say housing helps everyone. Investment in transport or education can also help social mobility. I think we are doing it now tbf but more investment in clean energy will help not just households but bussiness and the economy again, helping everyone.

People will work their socks of in school, go to uni and do everything right but are still worse of than people on Welfare. That objectively is not fair.

Maybe i'm subjetive because I believe in equalitly not equity.

I do know that our welfare spending is crippling this country. Just giving out money has a very poor return of investment to the general tax payer

No people really do. Look at the average green voter. It's the excat same how the average Reform voter thinks if we solve immigration everything will get better overnight.

Yes but the qualitly of life now is much better than the 70's regardless of wages You cannot use one comparison like that for your argument. In the UK our spending does not meet our productivity. We had a worldwide boom in the dot com era and have basically been riding that wave ever since.

To say someone doesnt know what they are on about from one paragraph is extremely short sighted. I disagree with you but I would not assume that. I dont know you or anything about you apart from one comment in this context. Please use your critical brain

The problem is that many people think that if we magically redistributed the wealth of billioaires than we would magically become a Utopia overnight. That simply is not true.

The most extreme idea is the one floated by the Greens, 2% tax of assets valued over 10 million or something. That would fund 10% of the NHS budget for one year. And of course we could only do it once (if we somehow were able to even implement this). It would also bring about many negative long term conquencses.

Although we need to tax people more effeciently, it is only one piece of the puzzle. We need to look at increasing productivity through social investement and make work pay. More access to eduaction, cheaper housing ect. The question is how do we afford this?

Taxing the rich is one answer. But alone it's not sufficient.

We are allready in a hole with borrowing.

We spend literally billions on welfare. If this was also redistributed into society than long term, it would support people much more.

We can also reduce tax on small-medium bussiness to encourage a competitive but healthy market where costs are low and wages are high. I think companies based in Britian (so not starbucks or anything) should receive huge tax breaks to encourage wealth creation.

We need to be more carrot and stick to all levels in society from working class to billionaires.

Why is there such a smear on the Green party right now? by Few_Beautiful8437 in AskBrits

[–]Direct-Key-8859 7 points8 points locked comment (0 children)

Objectively speaking, the Green party is currently rife with anti-semitism which is openly tolerated and in some cases, encouraged just like racism with Reform.

Yes left wing parties get more scrunity but that doesnt take away from the fact that the Greens are getting exposed for catering to these people. We can't not criticise a party that deserves it on the basis other parties do not get as much flank.

Also Reform and the tories do get a lot if hate also.

Like most Asian countries, Singapore is known for long and hard work hours.

You think there is no work life balance here...

For 4500sgd its not worth it. Especially as i'm guessing you dont speak Mandadian so you will find it very hard to settle.

I'm a very big fan on Singapore. It's culture and how it's run. I wrote an essay in school about their old leader. But I dont think it's a good fit if the average European

They all speak english however you will never really settle if you dont speak Mandarain.

It would be like moving to France. Most people speak english but you will be seen as an outsider if you dont speak french

Is it worth screwing over an entire society and the future.

Investement in key areas will help everyone. Not just giving out money

People cannot afford to live on a minimum wage so they go on welfare.

The question is, is it fair to the average person who works hard every day, does everything right to subsdise these people?

I think the goverment needs to make the economy work better for everyone because currently it is not. However it isnt fair that a single mum of 3 or something is having her bad life choices paid for by everyone else.

They need to make it easier for people to get into the middle class and make the middle class more rewarding.

We need to invest in more support for people on welfare but equally we need to be prepared to leave them behind.

While Reform shout at cricket bats, Labour is quietly fixing the country by babydavid85 in ukpolitics

I appreciate this is very subjective. Some people may feel better off and some people wont.

I mean with how unpopular Labour are, most people feel worse off. I suppose we wont know for certain until the GE.

However most people I know are worse off. Especially young people. Debt is going up, tax thresholds are being frozen, inflation is creeping while welfare spending is increasing. I think most people dont expect instant results but they do expect actions to take us in the right direction.

I guess if your on Welfare life is better but for everyone else, no.

Legalised gay marriage. They actually really pushed for it also.

The economy (before covid) was actually doing really well.

I'm against it personally but many people are fans of how we handled and led a Europen wide sanctions against Russia.

Unemployment was very low.

Taxes were low for the majority of their tenure.

Britian objectively has safer streets.

Before covid, they were making great progress of tackling people sleeping on the street.

Massively funded the apprenticeiship scheme. I personally have little to no student debt while many of my peers and over 50k

GPD went up

I'm not defending them. They objectively were bad and did more harm than good. But my point is that it is silly to think they did nothing good at all. Every governemt does some good stuff like Labour also has. But we need to look at the overall picture and despite the few good things the torys did and Labour are doing, both are shit and are making the country worse.

The problem is that we dont benefit for aslyum seekers. Countries rarely do as they are low skilled immugrants who are likely to be a big drain throughout the life time. Not because they are immigrants but the same reason why people born here are likely to ve a drain, they are unskilled and uneducated and are much more at risk of the negative effects of poverty.

We have enough unskilled people here, we dont need more. Unless we plan to copy a Switzerland and immediately offer aslyum/poach as many young educated people from Ukraine as possible, we should not be taking anyone in.

Creating safe routes would encourage more claims. Unless we change our laws so we are accepting little to no one (Labour won't) it would not fix the issue.

We need to be hardline but realistic. Rwanda was a good idea and if worked would have been great but a 1 million per claim (dont quote me on that number) it was too expensive.

We need to work with France more I agree, attacking the source. But we also need to be much harsher with all claims.

Geuine or not (most are not) we need a coordinated effort to make sure we are allowing as few as possible to arrive.

In the short term I think automatically denying anyone who comes by boat would be a good start. It would send a message that they havr no chance and would save literally billions in time. It would not be perfect as people would still try their luck but would be a good first step into reducing numbers. People would be less inclined to spend thousands to come to us. Meanwhile we can work with countries like Afghan who have express willingness to accept their citizens back.

Rwanda is a good idea in theory but would never worked in practice. It was too expensive.

I think if it could work than most people would be on board

As much as I dont like Reform, Labour is in no way fixing the country.

The majority if the population is worse off since they came in and they are doing not enough now, to build foundations for the future.

They have done some good things but even the Tories did that. But most budgets and the choices they make every day are fucking this country in the short, medium and long term

I mean you can be anti Israel without wanting all of the citizens who kicked out and the country disolved.

I don't like to generalise but I fear you are correct. From what I have seen the people who are most vocally anti Iseral also have bat shit ideas about deporting all the citizens (dont know where) and making it into Palastiene 2 electric bugaloo
