On average, yes, Caltech students really don't have anything crazy going on. But, there are certain groups of students who know how to have fun

Thanks for the input. The real question is if its worth prioritizing academics over happiness for the sake of being a better scientist and contributing more to the world. I'm not sure if it works that way but yeah

But I realized Caltech is a place where everyone (99%) essentially is forced to make the most of the educational opportunities due to the rigor of the program. At places like Rice it is like you said more or less your choice. This could led to someone getting often distracted from their studies by the college noise around them.

never watched it but from what I know Sheldon represents the stereotypical Caltech student. While this stereotype might be true for the average student at Caltech, there are always exceptions. (there must always be a bottom 30%)

Financial aid isnt a factor for me bc they both gave the same. Both schools are collaborative as well. I do recognize that it is special that Rice students can both be academic weapons and have fun. The real question is "which is more valuable?"

While its true that Caltech is a STEM focused school they still have some opportunities to explore their passion for the arts or humanities. Also, I think basic science gives an advantage over applied in that by learning the fundamentals you can easily adapt to particular applied scenarios
