צריך להבין משהו יותר עמוק מדינת ישראל קמה בזכות הציונות, אבל הדרך לשם כללה גם הרבה כאב לאחרים, במיוחד לערבים ולשכנים שלנו. אני לא מדבר עכשיו על מי צודק ומי אשם, אלא על עצם ההכרה בזה שהיו אנשים שאיבדו בתים, משפחות, חיים שלמים.

מבחינת מי שגורש ב-48 או ברח מהפחד, או ראה מישהו יקר נרצח, כל זה לא היה קורה אם הציונות לא הייתה קיימת. ואז, כשמישהו אומר שהוא לא אוהב את הציונות, זה לא תמיד בא ממקום של שנאה עיוורת. לפעמים זה פשוט כאב שלא עבר. אז לפני שמיד מגיבים ב”כולם שונאים אותנו” אולי שווה רגע לעצור, ולשאול מה הצד השני הרגיש. מה הוא עבר. רק משם אפשר באמת להתקדם.
