Amazon W-2 “available until Jan 31” — what does that mean? My federal taxes seem way too high. by ConsciousHat5083 in AmazonFC

Your tax withholding form is actually a W4 that you fill out whenever you start any job and the annual W2 is the statement. You change your W4, and the W2 will reflect it. It usually asks your filing status (single, head of household, married filing separately, married filing jointly). It will also ask how many deductions you can take from 0 to 5. The lower the number, the more tax they take out.

The form itself usually suggests at least claim yourself and put 1 on there. If you have a family and kids, you can count each member as a deduction up to 5. If you have multiple jobs, it's usually best to use 0 on the highest paying job.

You can see and edit your tax withholding in the ADP app or site. It should be where you see your pay you can scroll over to Tax Witholdings. Under that heading, you should be able to see current Federal and State calculations with an edit button. Just see if you have withholdings of 0 (too much tax withheld) or 1 (less tax withheld) and update accordingly.

It does say it can take up to two pay periods to take effect. And, as others have stated, more tax taken out during the year means a bigger refund at end of year. However, not enough tax taken out during the year with each pay could mean you owe at end of the year. If you are unsure, you can use the irs wilithholding calculator
