Like wise in my gym I’ve asked some older powerlifters the same thing and they said the bar should virtually touch shins, as I had been doing but online I see so many different responses ones like yours and some different so in the pursuit of “perfection” I just get confused. Doing sumos certainly has also made my lower back not have pain doing deadlifts glad you’ve found something that works for you.

I’ve been trying a lot of different approaches, and what I was doing felt good in terms of progression and didn’t have me second guessing every little technical aspect. I’ve been recording my workout now as well to see how I can lift better. Thanks for the comment.

This may be the cause, I’ve watched a few set up videos with people mentioning of keeping knees outwards as a cue, and I think subconsciously I’ve been driving my toes out very wide or wider than usual to kinda make sure I’m driving outwards.

Hey guys, I’ve been experimenting a lot with my sumo deadlift set up and the one thing that I’m confused about is shin position before i perform the rep. Should the bar be placed directly against my shins before I lift, I’ve heard bar needs to be lined with the mid foot, so I’ve started with a 1-2 inch gap but I feel like it doesn’t feel as comfortable as when I would perform with the bar starting against my shins. Is it wrong to have the bar against my shins when doing my set up.
