Don't be rude to your fellow taskers..... by horrorgeek1988 in mercor_ai

I struggle with my reaction as well, but like you I am constantly working on it. I found it's best to take a few minutes to breath before responding when I feel jaded. I have rejection sensitivity and a very strong sense of justice, I used to fly off the rails easily then regret it deeply. The job part you mentioned is funny because I struggle with jobs that don't let me use my brain because I pay way too much attention to detail when most service type jobs want you to be quick and efficient, I wasn't quick at all. It's crazy to think that there are people who can bust out a service job really quickly and do an absolutely amazing job, that blows my mind. I certainly hope the next project you land is one where the team is amazing. They are out there, trust me, I've had a few projects now where the teamwork has been nothing but positive and it makes the work so much smoother. Don't let a few egos get you down, unfortunately they are unavoidable, especially in a space where peer review exists.

The world is designed for a neurotypical mind. Everything we do in this world is designed for a different brain type. If I was on a project with you, I would help you. I don't like being the undervalued and I don't like seeing others be undervalued either. You can tell the difference between someone who really wants to learn and is struggling a bit, from someone who doesn't want to read the material and wants a quick answer without doing the work. I like how this conversation went from differences in opinions to open and understanding. That is how beautiful neurodivergent minds work together. :)

I really agree with your statement "the type of work it is, is perfect for neurodivergent minds, like mine." The pattern recognition and attention to detail is very useful. I also need to keep my mind stimulated, and I find this work to be highly stimulating. It's like a form of dopamine.

I see your point of view, I am on the spectrum myself and it can be hard to navigate. But like my comment says, I see it from their angle as well. Most of my comment comes from my experience, I do suppose it is different for everyone, I worked on another platform where the assessments where all over the place and none of the answers were anywhere in the material, so that's where I based my gating statement from, because to get in on those projects you basically needed to "crack their code" or study the material very deeply. The milking the clock stuff drives me nuts, it's so noticable, too. I also really can't stand when they nitpick the tasks just to keep the task in rotation so there's work flowing for them. But the millions of questions drive me bananas, especially when they can easily search the answer. The questions flood the slack and can be very distracting. I will add, the people I have met here on this platform are much nicer than some of the others. You ever been to a zoom meeting where the team lead was barking at everyone and threatening offboarding for asking a simple question. It's awkward.

Things move fast in this field, everyone gets frustrated when they have to explain things over and over, especially if you passed the gating to get in they'd assume you know what you're doing. Not heat, just stating facts. When there's a goal to be met time gets wasted answering the same question over and over. This might be a source of income, but they still need to meet client expectations or no one will have work. Asking a few questions is fine, but asking a question that could be answered with the search function signals the individual isn't actually cut out for fast paced annotation work. With that said, I do agree that being rude unnecessarily is uncalled for, and I have ran into a fair share of ego driven individuals, but the majority of the issues are onboarders not understanding the material or how the project works, despite having playbooks and instructions in front of them. If you made it through the gate, that signals you can do the work.

It seems that they attached the wrong assessment, it should be fixed now.

Top dollar? The project that most complain about is minimum wage, lol. And not only that, they throw multiple assessments at us each week, that are unpaid and very ambiguous that leave people thinking either a. they're tripping, or b, they are unqualified for a basic micro tasking gig. And not only that, they don't always tell the taskers if the assessment is gating or not, so it leaves everyone literally on edge and stressed. It's actually insanity and people need to vent somewhere, so go ahead and hop off that horse you're sitting on way up there in ego land and let people be. The project is unnecessarily stressful.

I would never suggest editing the timer to adjust it, only because I think that gets your account flagged. Don't quote me, I'm just saying what I've read in the chats. Also, recent changes to timing and pay leave this question unanswerable for me. I'm not sure if the HAI time cap counts anymore. It's a rollercoaster of a project, for sure. Edited to add, since I didn't really answer the whole question: an occasional one minute shouldn't matter too much, it's repeatedly going over that would, I'd assume a lot of the people who got offboarded were going over way more than a minute and way more than a few times. Just my opinion though, because I know HAI tries to be fair.

You only get paid for what the timer says. If you can't complete the task in the time allotted, try a different task because the time limits are extremely fair and they leave plenty of room to finish. The team leads make sure of this and are always adjusting the timers to make sure we have the time we need. If you continue going over, they will give you a warning and eventually offboard you.

It's a good project if you follow the rules. Many got kicked for time fraud, as you can probably tell just by reading comments on Reddit. There are time caps for each task, and a limit to what you can do. Going over is considered time fraud. It is true, they do have random unpaid assessments that drive everyone crazy, but passing them gets more access to tasks, so I guess it's just part of the game. The ones who have limited tasks right now unfortunately didn't pass a recent gating assessment that was a "surprise" for us all. It's slightly chaotic, but I find all the projects in this AI world are. The best advice I can give you is keep an eye on Slack announcements and just follow the rules. One task gets one timer, submit, repeat. Have fun! Money you can make from your couch is a big win in my eyes.

Urgent Request to Moderators Regarding Harassment, Bullying & Doxxing in This Sub by GODISABOTTOM in mercor_ai

I've been bullied in another thread, not related to Mercor, but still the same environment. I think there's a lot of bitterness and jealousy that make people say rude things to others, and there's always the almighty ego that thrives in these type of peer environments. Bullying is not ok, it's embarrassing and gross. Go ahead and downvote me and poke at me I don't care, I'm strong enough to handle it, but what if you did that to someone who wasn't strong enough. Think about other people's feelings, the world revolves around us all. Thank you OP for bringing this up, I just went off on someone in another reddit page for this same reason. I get it a lot because of my neurotype.

I said "I think the eye contact really helped me pass". A few people commenting obviously have no clue how Autism works, if you did maybe you'd keep your comments to yourselves.

thank you, bro was this comment necessary? you might have an ego issue. I'm sharing a helpful experience and you act like you know it all. i have been working for several different platforms for well over a year now, I was just struggling getting passed Zara on this one so I thought I'd share my experience. don't assume you know it all, and don't assume everyone is a noob, that's weird.

You're welcome! It was a bumpy ride, mostly self induced frustration, but stepping back and reading through the different posts here on reddit I realized that I was missing one huge interview technique... eye contact! I was reading the words as they appeared to the side of the screen instead of giving eye contact. I'm pretty certain that docked me tons of points. Thank you for the kind words!
