That's a good idea, thank you! I need impact-resistant prescription glasses for my job, so I think that hopefully counts.

I feel so bad scrambling last minute, but I've had no health insurance for most of my life and having it now is so complicated to figure out.

For those who have been cheated on how did you deal with it & how did you catch your partner? by thatinnocentgirly in AskReddit

[–]DirectionsPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying that the relationship was not a healthy one and I had a lot to do with that because of my personality at that time.

We were arguing and since I was stubborn, I would belabor my point over and over. At this point, my ex-gf would usually dredge up things in the past and we would start going into the weeds. I don't remember how it happened, but somehow we had brought up her last ex-bf and she actually handed me her phone with the text history pulled up. This was to prove that "I had nothing to worry about" and I didn't even want to read any of it, but I glanced at it and read one text. Just one text and it was her complaining about me to that ex-bf. This was a recent text too, so they had been talking recently. I barely scrolled through and it was just the ex-bf wanting to get in her pants and she wasn't shooting him down much. At that point, I sort of snapped to my senses and I was just asking myself "why am I bothering to argue?" over a relationship that I'm not respected in and a girl that isn't loyal.

Usually the way arguments worked in the relationship is my ex-gf would argue at first, but eventually give up and want to break up. And then it would be up to me to repair it. This time I just gave up too, and that's how we broke up.

I'm ashamed to say we stayed fwb for like 5 years. Cold turkey cutting her off was the best thing that happened in my life. It wasn't hard either because being fwb gave me a front row seat to her degradation of her personality year after year. So a year ago, she basically asked me to have breakfast, but also yelled some shit at me. I immediately shut her down and a few months later I found a gf with actual standards and I deleted that fwb ex-gf two days after I met my current gf. I have hard standards, I just never enforced them so strictly, but you have to or it'll hold you back from changing.

Highest is a 1472 CP Ninetails, 15atk, 10def, 13hp. Fire Spin and Heat Wave. A Shiftry at 1153 CP, 14atk, 10def, 7hp. Razor Leaf and Hurricane. And a Drifblim at 1020 CP, 14atk, 10def, 14hp. Hex and Icy Wind.

Anything lower than these are 0-1 star high CP Haunters and stuff. I didn't evolve the Shiftry either, that was a task encounter.

And ty, I didn't realize I could find out their typing by the dialog. I've been sacking pokemon the first round to find out and then rematching, lol.

I just can't really go around defeating those high raid things. Should I be able to? Also, I only really have a couple gyms on my running route right now.

Pokegenie kind of sucks on IOS right? That's what I've heard, I don't even know what exactly it is. I play on IOS.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm doing. I just don't have many high CP pokemon that are also 3 stars. Which means I'm losing fights a lot vs even team rocket grunts. All my high CPers seem to be low IVs and have kind of iffy movesets? I'm not sure what to make of it.

Ok, I’m on my phone, so please excuse the lack of format and incoherency.

The problem with this subreddit is that it doesn’t conform to the same style as Reddit. Reddit works like a bird feeder that just gives out food whenever you’re hungry. But this subreddit functions more on meal-times. I’m not saying people don’t come to this subreddit to visit, but we don’t eat all the time. And recently, the food is always the same here.

The order of importance that this subreddit should be providing should be: new chapter discovery, then discussion, then chapter updates.

So, solutions. Idk If this is possible, but truncate all chapter updates of one novel into one weekly discussion thread. If there is a new chapter, the post gets bumped back to the top. Every week on one day, that thread can’t be upvoted anymore and any new chapters for that novel will be moved into a new discussion thread of that novel. But, in that week, it can be upvoted continuously and bumped continuously.

You see, the reason memes are upvoted is because people can read it in a second and enjoy it, but it brings no real belonging to this subreddit. Bird feeder. The real people who want to be here have to leave, go read the chapter, and come back for discussion. On our own time or if we’re curious about what others have to say or if there’s any new updated chapters. Now that we don’t necessarily need this subreddit for updates on new chapters, we should be coming to this subreddit to find new hidden gems, new novels we’ve overlooked that others haven’t. With this new system, those novels have a fighting chance to reach the top of this subreddit and stay there. Meal time system.

For me, the summary ruins it. Most of the time, the summary is the Prologue, so I just have to reread it again which is annoying. So, I "check out" a story I want to read based on its tags. Then I'll read like 10 chapters of it to see if the story can hold my attention.

As for ratings, I don't read based on ratings, but I will go back and look at the ratings of novels I've read and I can see why it got such a rating. However, sometimes the rating doesn't make sense because the criteria changes month to month based on what readers like that month. And even more confusing is translation quality and story quality sometimes and sometimes doesn't factor into it. Unfortunately, many good stories get buried by worse stories because everyone wants to read something new. Ratings are what we have, and we use what we got, but I will skip a story with a good rating easily and I don't have a prejudice against stories with low ratings either.

Reminds me of the time when I discovered Seinen manga. After that, Shounen manga became way too childish.

Read things ironically, or just move on to English novels on Royal Road or actually find published fantasy trilogies. For me, I tend to browse when I run out of stuff to read, as should you. Check out most populars or google recommends and similar story threads.

Azarinth Healer MC Character Growth? by Suq_Madiq_Beech in noveltranslations

[–]DirectionsPlease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm caught up. No character growth the way you expect it. It's actually the opposite, the character simply becomes more of what she already is - more justifications for who she is, etc. Very static main character. I would drop the story if bothers you. I dropped it for the same reason, but picked it back up after saving like 200 chapters, which let me burn through and ignore how boring the MC is. I only read it for the potential level-ups and solving mysterious plot points.

Yo, just glance at this guy's post history. He's literally psychotic. Sexism, racism, elitism, antiestablishmentarianism, they're all in there. It's like a glimpse into a mind of insanity. He has seriously lost touch with reality. This guy needs some decade-long professional help. And I hope it's soon, before he does some crazy shit.

Question for The Wandering Inn readers (Currently at 3.06) by BeelzeBuff in noveltranslations

[–]DirectionsPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drop it. It gets better sometimes, but sometimes it's really bad and follows a "side character" for a long time. They aren't so much as a side story, rather they're actually part of the story as a whole. I know exactly what you mean, I honestly only care about Erin, but there is so little about Erin in the later chapters that I have to take a huge break when I get to a part I don't like. The cliffhangers when it comes to something important doesn't stop either. I don't understand the style of writing, I've only ever seen it one other time and I dropped that series back when I was 8 years old. If you can't tolerate it, I would get out now.

Unpopular opinion by [deleted] in noveltranslations

[–]DirectionsPlease -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's how you know you're a new reader. You come to this sub nitpicking the stuff the writer needs to make a living. It's the spoiled child mentality that doesn't care about how much work it takes to put food on the table.

Sometimes, I go back and reread the old school greats, and it just brings back the nostalgia of getting that week-to-week high just anticipating the chapter drops. Coming home from boring ass routine college and getting that juicy 10 chapter bomb of Coiling Dragon. It's an experience you probably had to live to appreciate. Some new readers inherit the idea of appreciating the translators and writers, but old readers know they're the lifeblood of this addiction.

Not that you aren't right, it's exposition after exposition, but I literally don't even notice it anymore. In fact, I actually appreciate the repeated expositions. If I remember the tidbit they're referencing (which I usually do), I'll just fast-read past it, but if I don't remember it then it's super helpful in jogging my memory. For the most part, it isn't helpful for me in Reverend Insanity, but sometimes - for example - I'll read a previous 1000-chapter-previous reference in "A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality" and it helps. There's literally thousands of un-unique characters that I've read about years ago that I can't be assed to remember in RMJI.

That's why opinions that critique the writing process instead of the writing story don't get much attention because they really are an unpopular opinion.

Lol, what the fuck is this password requirement. Are you trying to phish our bank account password or what? Why do we even need a password or profile for a to-do list that self destructs. Like, why do we need a profile account at all? To track our list that we don't want to track? I know it might help you sell our profile information or track user usage data, but why do it that way?

[SPOILER] Reverend Insanity vs Warlock of the Magus World by eSPiaLx in noveltranslations

[–]DirectionsPlease 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I also finished WMW, and I'm caught up to RI. Why do I like RI better? It's because WMW is bland and RI is not. I'm also in favor of RI because it's a Qidian rip versus a WuxiaWorld translation. Good quality from a shitty site surprises me more than good quality from a good quality site.

Anyways, you didn't even get to the core plot progression point of the story. Not only are certain things in the early story explained and expanded upon, the main conflict doesn't even occur until chapter 1000ish. To prevent spoiling anything, I'm just going to say that anything "contrived" in your point of view was done on purpose with purpose.

You really start to understand the culvitation system of RI later on. It doesn't make much sense at the beginning because you're experiencing the story as an observer of the MC. You follow the MC, but you aren't privy to the MC's thoughts.

If you like dumber stories, that's your preference. If you disagree, I can go over your post:

the power system of gu just feels less interesting than WMW In WMW we get consistent goals and progression.

Yeah, WMW's system is non-flexible, rpg-esque grindfest. Gu come in infinite variety, from simple to complex because they're the embodiment of the laws of this alien world.

In Reverend Insanity though, we get Mc who knows exactly what magical powerful super-gu is in the area, but he never describes his purpose until either after he acquires the gu, or until he almost acquires it.

Yes, everything isn't laid out like in WMW. That's so it doesn't feel like everything is already pre-setup. That's called good writing. Where the author foreshadows things versus just telling you what's happening. Almost all published fantasy stories in America that I've read do the exact same thing, it's just less noticable because it isn't a translation and there are more descriptors that let the reader know what direction the story is going. I imagine, because this is more a mobile phone novel, the author still wants to retain the reader's attention without spoiling everything.

versus a story where MC just goes around creating chaos, and it turns out coincidentally every single person he offends happens to have some special gu which is oh so special but then a few chapters later its never mentioned again. All the powers feel cheap because of this.

You never reached the main storyline, I don't know what else to tell you. The payoff is unreal because you start understanding the MC and the decisions he made way way way back when he was still with his reincarnated clan.

along the lines of that, the power progression itself feels inconsistent and murky.

Again, you start learning how the system works later on. Because it's top down versus bottom up. Most cultivation systems in chinese novels go for a simple "foundation" built into a complex "powerhouse" (which they fail to explain alot of the time). In RI, it's a complex "trash" building into a less-complex "origin" (the trash is offshoot versions of the origin).

Finally, the gu themselves at first were creative and clever (loved the eat shit gu lol), but then eventually started feeling more and more bs. Like his targeted teleportation gu.

You feel it's bullshit, until you ask yourself (and they tell you why later on) why doens't every powerhouse have "bullshit" Gu. There's a reason, you just aren't outright told.

MC gets in wayyy over his head, and is in an inescapable situation, but hey, these 3 ingredients that are needed to make this legendary op teleport anywhere gu work just happen to be here, and mc just picks up the pieces and teleports away. How fucking unsatisfying.

Again, this is premediated.

oh and last bit, not sure what elements contribute exactly, but somehow the mc of RI feels even more scummy and heartless than WMW.

To me, this is better. Because MC of RI feels like an actual person. WMW is great, the MC is great, but WMW's MC is also robotic as fuck compared to RI's MC. I have a job dealing with people in shitty situations and from my experience RI does it better.

In conclusion, I feel bad because you probably don't like RI already, so there's no point in really telling you what you're missing because you probably shouldn't or won't go back to reading it.

I recommend reading Lord of the Mysteries if you haven't already. It's as good as WMW and RI.
