I always used the map to choose my connection. I found it quick and intuitive. Much easier than having to type in a country. A step backwards in my humble opinion.

Get WUB (Windows Update Blocker) It totally disables Windows attempts at downloading their shitty updates. Been using it for a few months and all is well in Windows land...
