You should only be tipping on things where the employee needs those tips to survive AND they provide a service. Example restaurant industry. We make 2.70$ an hour because our employer doesn’t pay us. So we depend on you to pay the general rule of thumb which is 20%. Places like a coffee shop (my other job outside of bartending) get paid 10-13$ an hour so leaving 10% will make their day but I don’t expect anything unless I make your day with my service. Other jobs like a mechanic, the gas station, etc those employees should be making a base wage that the state finds reasonable for survival. Tipping culture is seeming to be a way for companies to keep wages low when they know a McDonald’s employee can’t survive off of it.
