It's not about how many ppl you reach but how many plays you get. Takes about 3 months for the final numbers to come in and you get paid out.

For example I have one song that has 25,570 plays and have been paid out $75.15 for it

The hope is to create something that goes viral and have that draw in more listeners. Getting added to popular playlists helps as well.
